Need help trying to be consistent

Hi
I have been overweight for about the last fifteen years. I never had a problem with weight until a couple of years after high school. I was diagnosed with an illness and the medication I was prescribed increased my appetite. Since I had poor eating and exercise habits, (fast food and no exercise) I gained weight pretty quick and a lot of it. Since then I have gone back and forth with my weight and I haven't been able to lose much. In 2008, I joined Weight Watchers and lost 24 lbs but I gained all of it back plus 34 lbs. I gave Weight Watchers a couple more tries but had little success.

Then a few years ago (2011), I hit my heaviest weight. In 2012, I determined that I would lose some weight. I participated in a Biggest Loser contest at work. I lost 18 lbs in 10 weeks and another 19 lbs that year counting calories and using the forums on myfitnesspal.com. But after a while I noticed I had plateaued and had stopped dieting and was just back to my former eating habits. Last March and April I did a month of the paleo diet (whole30.com). I lost 16 lbs in that month. I really want to lose weight but I am really inconsistent with my eating and I don't like to exercise. I know most people don't. I need to develop more self-discipline. I have heard that self-discipline is doing something when you don't feel like doing it. I think a lack of self-discipline is part of my problem.

Last week I started a C25K running program. I completed the three runs for that week. I am working hard to complete all three runs for this week as well. I believe that consistency is the key. So I hope as I make better food choices and exercise more that I will be successful at losing weight. Also I have agreed to do a 5K obstacle course in August so I hope that having something to work towards will help.

Thank you for reading this! I would appreciate any advice or just your support.

Smiles,
Ashley

What 5K obstacle course are you running in August? By the way, my name is David. My wife an I are running a 5K electric run in D.C. in late August. Consistency is key when trying to lose weight but you can never out work a bad diet. You definitely need to exercise some self control when it comes to eating and if you can I would recommend going cold turkey and stop eating fast food. I know that sounds really hard but you will thank yourself later when you feel better about yourself. I did it about 3 years ago and cant remember the last time I ate McDonalds or Burger King. It wasn't easy but I kept telling myself that it was making me a healthier person lol. Do you like the results that you are seeing from your running program or are you looking to supplement in other workouts as well?
