Hey There!

My name is Jonathan and I'm in desperate need of help and tips to lose weight at the moment. My confidence level is so low that I don't even want to go outside to take the trash out or even go to the store at some times. I wear jackets all the time to hide my chest and my stomach area so it hides the fat, etc. I've been struggling with my weight for awhile now and I am ready to make the step towards my new journey and new body. I want my confidence to increase in ways that I will never imagine and I want to get a girlfriend to share my life with. I don't eat much junk at all but, I'm very lazy and I do consume bread, mayo, hot chips. I do have bad habits and I am willing to break them and get out of those habits. My goal weight is 200 or 210, and then start building muscle to tone up. I want to start now because I do not want to have crazy excess skin, but also for my health, emotionally, and confidence. I need help in what foods to eat and what foods to stay away from as well as what to do to speed up the weight loss. I thank you for taking the time reading this.

John

Welcome to the forum.

I've moved this to the newcomers area - as you are a newcomer - and it is a great introduction to yourself. Also - I think that some areas are more active so have a better chance of being seen.

The best thing that you can do is start to move more and eat differently...

From what you have said that you may feel a bit reticent about going to a gym - then you really cannot go wrong with taking up walking more... It is something we can do without any specialist equipment and you do not have to wear sporty clothes which makes it obvious what you are doing...

You can start off by doing what may seem little things like getting off the bus a stop or two early... Then you can start challenging yourself to do more. I'm a firm believer in wearing a pedometer for every step of the day. It is great for challenging yourself to get to a certain magic number or do more steps than the previous day or week... A lot of authorities say that we would all be healthier if we walked at least 10,000 steps a day.

As for your food - you can work bit by bit on making it more healthy.

It is very healthy to ensure that you are drinking sufficient water as they allow your kidneys and in turn your liver to function properly. You can start off by aiming to drink for instance a bottle of water a day and work it up from there to the recommended level.

Maybe try to eat more fruit and veg and find if there are healthier versions of some of the tempting foods that you mention loving if you cannot initially face stopping having them.

I suggest you check out the clubs and challenges... I always found these to be very useful - for getting ideas, staying on track and making friends.
Also start a diary - visit other people's diaries and see what they do, make friends, cheer them on and with luck some of them will return the favour and visit your diary.

Good luck with your project.

Motivation Tips To Lose Weight

1. Fast results are a powerful motivator. When groups of people were compared it was found that those who made big changes in their eating and exercise habits saw big results on the scale and because of this their motivation to continue grew. The group who made small changes did not see results quickly and were more likely to lose motivation.

2. Focus on the benefits. We often mistakenly try to motivate ourselves by using scare tactics, "If I don't lose this weight I am going to die!" This however has been shown to become too overwhelming and make you more likely to revert to your old habits and comfort zone. Train yourself to constantly focus on what eating right and exercising is doing to enhance your life and how great you will feel when the weight is off and you will stay motivated.

3. Have a mentor or support group. A mentor is someone who you get inspired by because they accomplished weight loss before you and a support group is a group of individuals who are aiming for the same goal as you. When these things are in place you find that you are able to move through obstacles and challenges and stay motivated to keep going.

Use these motivation tips to lose weight and you will have all the pieces in place that you need for weight loss success.
