Need help please!

I have been into fitness religously for the past 2 years and had just began to understand everything and getting my act totally together thanks in large part to this forum. However I lost my job this week and have completely lost my focus and motivation. I try to workout but it always turns into a half-hearted effort and my diet is also suffering. Can someone give me some advice or a swift kick in the butt? You guys have been great in the past, please help.

Are you going to look for a new job? Then you want to be in top shape for the interviews, both physically and mentally. Now is the time to do even more exercise. You'll be fine. :)

Hang in there, CCS. Losing your job is a highly stressful event and emotionally exhausting. (Believe me I know, been there done that.) It's no surprise that your routine is out of whack. Just push yourself to keep going, even if it's half-hearted. Once you get a new job and get back into a comfortable routine you will regain your focus. The good news is that it's an employees market right now, so get out there and shop around! :)

It's a great chance to make a new beginning.

I lost a job a few years ago that sent me into a depression that surprised me. What this makes me think of is that you may feel like you don't deserve to feel good physically, because you 'think' you messed up at work. But, what will happen is if you fall out of shape you'll feel EVEN WORSE about yourself. Part of being human is making mistakes, and "This too shall pass". Your mental state has alot to do with your physical capabilities, as most of us know. So don't be so hard on yourself mentally, and allow your physical work to reward you again. It's okay to take a break, but don't let yourself get into a slump that you'll regret later. Let yourself feel better because believing that you deserve it is how you get better. No matter what happened you do deserve it. :)

4 years ago, I joined an American company in London, UK - biggest company in USA in that business. Fanstastic position and superb package. 3 months later, the top guy shot himself and the company decided to close European operations. Knowing me I was shocked to find myself in depression. Fortunately, it lasted only a day or two. Then I developed a routine for myself. I would leave the home at 8 am. Spend the day developing or polishing a skill / search for a job / talk to rectruitment agents / better my CV / network / research companies or market.
It took me 4.5 months to find a job because none of the companies were hiring and majority of the companies were either shedding tons of people or closing their operations. But the decision to not give up - kept me going.

I am very sure that, if you continue with your efforts, sooner or later, you would find your job. No doubt. It is not a question of IF, but WHEN. So keep going.
I helped me a lot to think of job-hunting as a job. Give it at least the same level of time and efforts.
Keep trying different things. Ask yourself what you havent done so far. Research the market. Look for companies you haven't looked before. Talk to people you havent talked as yet. Network. Try to expand your search criteria.
Think of your transferable / portable skills.
Polish your CV to impress the kind of people you are looking for. Improve your interview skills.
And please take a big bottle of self-confidence daily as a supplement.;)
Be positive, because even your next job is looking for you.:)
All the very best to you!!!
If you need a friend to talk to discuss to, we are here.
Chin up and smile, my friend.:)

Well said ManLondon - keep it going and use this time to improve your CV and abilities - I'm out of work too (although just graduated) so spending the time currently where I'm not doing my pre season Rugby stuff learning new stuff to help me in the IT industry.

The day a job doesnt say 3+ years experience is the day I get it :)

You should have the same attitude - the next job you want, you get.

Thanks for all your encorgaing words, they truly mean a lot. This may turn out to be a good move for me in the long run. I just need to get back into my routine and get myself in the best shape I can. Being physically ready will help my mental state and put me back on track.

I'm off to hit the weights now.
Thanks guys!!
