Sport need help please.... my girlfriend

Sport Fitness
hi. im new to this forum and the weight loss/dieting stuff. my girlfriend wants to loose weight and i am not shure about what she should eat, how many cals/carbs/protine intake she should have, when to eat, how much to eat at a time and what types of food to eat. im into bodybuilding and i know how to eat for that, but i dont think 5000cals 495 carbs and 300gs of protine is gonna do her any good. she wants to loose some weight off her thies and around her waist. i just want to help her. id have her in the gym with me and shed be doin cardo and toneing stuff while i lift, but i dont know what to tell her to eat. whats a good ammount of calories, carbs, and whatever els is good to watch for her to slim down. any imput is very apreciated. id like to keep her away from supplements and stuff but idk....any help is great. thanks
jeff

if she's not heavily into excercise or the gym you'd be best making smaller changes over a period of time.

my gf goes to the gym twice a week, as she a) works shifts and b) isnt heavily interested beyond being healthy.

id say start the smaller meals more often thing, as thats key to it all. help her with a cardio program and show her some basic resistance stuff but make it clear that just doing a small amount of weights will help burn fat, not build the muscle that it sounds like you have.

if you can do that, without sounding patronising or falling out, let me know; that is the hardest bit.

on that point, if you can create some distance between your routines it'll help immensely, and by that i mean dont have her doing the same thing you are, or where you are.

if its her routine she'll learn to tailor it to herself and feel more in control, we all know what its like to look at other more fitter/muscular/agile people in the gym and how demoralising it'll be. if you can get her interested in what she is doing, and she doesnt believe that stepping onto a treadmill makes you lose weight, you'll be onto a winner.

She should eat what you eat... just not as much. How much she needs depends on her goals, her weight, her age, her height, her activity level, etc.

She should workout just like you workout... but not lift as heavy as a weight. She should be just as challenged as you, but I can almost guarantee you that you can lift heavier than she can.

If she isn't into changing for herself... then it may not workout. She should be searching boards for info. Try to find a way to make your relationship more active and healthy without throwing it in her face. The post above had good suggestions.

Cook her dinner. Make it a healthy one. Have more wild-n-crazy sex. That's cardio! Go for a long romantic hike. Maybe she'll get healthier without realizing what you're doing :)

Well Jeff all I can say is you can't complain about that last paragraph. As for you Lynn, you're thinking is quite intriguing. :) Nothing wrong with mixing it up though. As they say "variety is the spice of life"

What to change

I am new to this forum stuff, so please bear with me. I have been working out for awhile now, but as age creeps up on me I have been trying to hit it harder. I recently in the last 6 months have been running 3 miles 5-6 times a week. I do alternate between running and eliptical. I have shin splints now, and have to heal those. I think most of my problem is with diet. I do real good, then go off the deep in because I deprive my body of the "good stuff". A normal day for me looks like this:

7:30-8:00 2 cups of coffee with 0gr trans fat
9:00 2 slices of wheat bread with peanut butter
10:00 a whole grapefruit
9:30-12:00 tons of water
12:00-1:00 workout
1:30 salad with ranch salad dressing
2:00 some sort of snack i.e. yogart, cheerios, crackers
3:00 fruit usually orange
and water throughout. I generally drink at least 8 glasses of water
dinner either consists of chicken or salad

But.....I do cheat. Where I work we have tons of chocolate and I nibble. Do I need more protein? Should I do a shake? I just really enjoy eating. Help!!!! I really need to take the last 5-7lbs off before summer. Any suggestions?
