Need an unbiased opinion...

So, i am 23 years old, 6'6" tall, and in moderate shape (no six pack, but not huge lol) i have been doing a constant routine of weight lifting (curls / benchpress / chest fly's / planks [i hate crunches], squats, etc)... used to jog for cardio, starting to rock climb instead though... more interesting

But i find that i cant quite make anymore gains at the point im at...

i dont have a TON of time a day to dedicate to working out since i work as well as am in university.

I have recently been looking into a few step type programs such as the p90x, which looks like it has great results in a compact time...

i would love to get some unbiased opinions on the p90x system since i can never be sure which is a selling gimic and what are real results

Thanks in advance
Flounder

P.S. i sure hope this is posted in the right sub forum, if not can i please be notified so i can move it :) thanks

I have no idea what the p90x system is, but you could try high intensity interval training over jogging or rock climbing to shake up your cardio routine.

I'm currently in the last phase of completing P90X for the second time. I'll probably come off as biased but I really enjoy the program. I'm 5' 10" and 205 currently. When I started Round 1 I was 215lb so there's not much weight difference in the 2 rounds. I have however noticed huge differences. It's a good program because it's regimented so you always know what's coming up and what to do next. Just stick with it and it works. There's no trick to the whole routine, you just put the work in to get the results out. It's demanding to have to workout 6/7 days a week but really pays off. As an example here are some numbers from Day 1 till now:

Push ups: Day 1, 40 Now, 75
Pull ups: Day 1, 12 Now, 20+ (depends on the day)

There is a mix of weight lifting and other exercise. There is plyometrics (jump training), Yoga, and Kempo (martial arts).
I have to say the between exercises are awesome. I'm an avid snowboarder and the jump training improved my legs/hips/core a ton during the off season. I was jumping higher, landing smoother, and my legs were ready to go opening day. The Yoga improved my flexibility a ton which helped everything else in turn. During high school and college I had knee issues where my knee would stiffen up after exercise. After Round 1 P90X my knee was back to 100% and has been since.

Overall it's a well put together program that's worth doing. It's only 3 months for the whole program so it's worth the time to try it out. The workouts are put together really well and Tony Horton (the host) explains how to do everything and keeps it entertaining. Hope this helps.
