:( I have been experiencing a yucky metallic taste in my mouth and my kids tell me that my breath smells weird....my mum also told me that I need to gargle...this is all since I've been on this diet...now I'm paranoid about it!
Is anyone else experiencing this? I have been told it is because I'm in ketosis. When I questioned my Cohen Clinic, they said :
"I have had many nurses and other clients check there urine for Ketosis and they have not found that at all. Even I havent seen any sign of Ketosis when doing the program occasionally.
If you are experiencing any signs please let us know."

wow you're weightloss is amazing and so close to the endtoo way to go

No nasty breath here, sorry I can't help.

From my days selling vitamins, I think this is an indication of a lack of some mineral in your diet, particularly the metallic taste. I just can't remember which one - sorry! But if you did a google search, you could probably find something about it.

Yes I had it too, it is normal, it is just your body ridding it self of toxins that are released from the fat cells. Nothing will make it go away, just keep the gum going.

My wife is complaining constantly about my bad breath, I am guessing also a by-product of metabolising fat. My wife says it is not the smell of nail polish remover (acetone) which I read is a sign of ketosis. However it was very bad after the first week on the diet and has improved somewhat eg. from 10/10 "satans breath terrible" to 7/10 "bad".

The smell doesnt seem to come from my mouth as it is still there after brushing/flossing and gargleing, my wife even had me go to the dentist for checking and professional cleaning (good idea anyway :D). Anyway the must come from my lungs or from my stomach.

Anyway it does seem to be part of the diet for me, and I believe it comes from metabolism of fat. Is sugarless gum allowed on the diet?

Have you guys tried scrapping the tongue with a small teaspoon as far back as you can....lots of stinky stuff sits there:eek: ....helps alot.;)

Cohen's just told me...

that it could be due to constipation, detox or too much zinc supplements...it's not the zinc though.

Less Fatty - I do think it comes from the lungs or not related to mouth as I have good dental hygiene (brush/floss 3 times per day) no cavities etc...could be detox or poor digestion with lack of fibre...will eat some dates...this seems to get things moving (diet tea etc is too potent/explosive for me)

Thanks for your help guys;)

Hi Cherub

Are you allowing yourself to become completely 'empty' between eating?

The 'tomb smell' is when the stomach is empty. Unless you already do so, try and space your eating out more evenly.

So meal, fruit, crispbread, meal, fruit etc rather than meal, meal, meal.

In the first couple of weeks on the program, I got into the habit of spicing the food, and found that curry powder in particular left a shocking taste in my mouth, couldn't seem to shift it. Considering that I was using the barest amount of spice it took a while for me to realise, and it was because I was frying the spice in with the meat.

After that, and once I got into the habit of the casseroles, I didn't have the problem again. I made sure that the dried herbs in the casseroles were mainly oregano or parsley, occasionally chilli flakes, but avoided curry powders, dried ginger or other pungent spice.

Also, if you are not doing the yoghurt breakfast, perhaps you could start as the yoghurt is very good for digestive health.

Hope this helps

Chelsea

I get very bad breath if I haven't eaten in a while. My partner will say to me `You haven't eaten for a while, have you?' or `Aghhhhh, go eat something!' when I breathe on her.
