Nancy's weight loss diary

So, I'm on a diet--how totally unbelievable. I don't diet! But the doctor says high blood pressure and high cholesterol, try diet and exercise for three months and see how it goes. I think I'm way too young for these kinds of things so my vanity is wounded! I'm using the food pyramid diet. I found it on the Mayo Clinic website. It uses height and weight to calculate servings in each food group allowed. It seems pretty universal though, 1200 calories and unlimited fruits and vegetables, 75 calories from sweets a day.

My biggest concern is finding low fat foods that are not full of chemicals. We eat organic 99% of the time. I can't stand the taste or lowfat dressings, any kind of fake flavorings, apsertame, etc.

I am off to a fairly good beginning. Since Monday I've changed my exercising and eating habits. I need to lose 80 pounds total. I have no goal date but the three month mark looms large.

I 've walked for 1/2 an hour each day since I started. I have stuck to a pretty strict diet with the exception of an extra carb at night. One night some Ritz crackers and the next a 1/2 a bagel. I get so hungry at night that I realized I should leave most of my carbs for the end of the day. But I haven't eaten any sweets

For breakfast I eat 1/2 a cup of cereal with just a little milk and herbal tea.
For lunch I eat a big salad with cottage cheese and a small amount of chopped walnuts. For dinner I have a small portion of protein, vegetables, and 1/2 a cup of carbs, (rice, pasta, etc.)

I have always been a healthy eater. No fast food, soy margarine, lots of vegetables, skim milk. I was a vegetarian for nearly 10 years. But I always ate lots of food at meals, ate out alot, and NEVER exercised.

I'd love advice about how to deal with the hunger pains, shopping advice--but I live in a rural area with not a lot of choices--and just help to keep me going. How long before my body adjusts and I'm not hungry anymore??
