Hi all,

I am new to the site and would like any feedback on what I might be doing wrong. I been staying at 215 pounds for 6 months. For the first 5 months, I was doing 30 minutes jog/walking (1 min walk, 5 min jog at 5.0 mph) on 3 days and alternate with weight training for 2 days. I would rest on the weekends.

For last month, I been trying to hit a distance of 5 miles (fast walking mix with jogging) for every weekday for 1-1.25 hours. If some days I feel that I can't do it, I switch to elliptical for 45 mins.

How important is the diet? How much should I be eating? What should my heart rate be during exercise and how long to maintain it?

I always become very hunry after a workout and eat my fruits ... where am i going wrong?

As I understand it, losing weight is simply burning more calories than you consume. You burn calories just being awake, albeit at a slower rate than you do when you exercise. You should keep track of how many calories you eat on a daily basis. If you eat enough of it, fruit can prevent you from losing weight. You can get an idea about how many calories you burn doing various activities here:

Your target heart rate for fat burning varies by age. You can easily find the numbers with a Google search. If you're exercising that often, and you're keeping your heart rate up while you do it, and you're not consuming a lot more calories than you burn, and you're still not losing weight, you should probably talk to your doctor.

That is potentially a rate of one mile every 15 minutes. That's pretty slow, especially if most of it is jogging as you say. If you are healthy enough, I would probably say to bump up the intensity. If you've been jogging as much as you say you have, for 6 months, I think it's about time to crank it up a little.

How important is the diet?

Extremely.

How much should I be eating?

I can't comment on this one. I don't even count calories or calculate what I should eat for myself. I just go by my true hunger. I just basically drink plenty of water, like a gallon a day, eat protein all throughout the day, eat a small amount of food every 2 hours or so, only eat what I need to stop being hungry, and make sure what I eat is a vast variety of healthy items. That works well for me, and I have plenty of energy and I don't get hungry. But, everybody's different, so if you need exact food item or proportion recommendations, somebody else will have to comment.

What should my heart rate be during exercise and how long to maintain it?

At least 60% of your max heart rate. There are max heart rate calculators available on the web, just do a search. Otherwise, as high as you are healthy enough to handle and can maintain. Usually it would be between 60% and 85% max heart rate. You should be sweating fairly good.

It's normal to be hungry, but try to incorporate some protein for recovery and not just fruit. Look at sources from lean meat and beans. Processed soy protein products are good too.

2 months ago I started using the bicicle to get everywhere- Id be biking all day- Yet me weight never changed- It always hovered between 280-285.
I feel like getting down to 200 will be like squeezing water from a rock...
