Hi, I'm James and obviously, a newbie to this forum. I'm turning 15 on June 29th (soon :D) and a male, and was wondering whether or not to start on a diet. I've been told I was fat, but I've not a clue if it's a joke, or just a sort of poke at my weight. I'm around 5'4 and weigh about 130-135 lbs. In my own opinion I don't think I'm that fat, but I guess I see where they're coming at. I always thought I had a decently flat stomach, but I'm just not sure. What I was wondering from you guys is 130-135 lbs at age 15 and 5'3/5'4 a good weight or bad weight ( by bad i mean one to start a diet plan) Also, I constantly eat :p , and not very muscular so I can't say that most of this weight is from muscles. Thanks in advance!

You can go to the free body fat calculator online and see just how much is lean muscle mass and how much is fat.
You are going to need a measuring tape to do this. Good luck!

thanks, i'll give it a try in a sec and leave results in an edit after i do it.

edit: okay, i did it, not with the most accurate measures in the world, but i think it should give an idea. I'm embarassed, but here are the results:

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) - 1,544 cals/day

Total Calorie Burn (TCB) - 2,548 cals/day

Waist to Hip Circumference Ratio - 0.98

Lean Body Mass (LBM) - 105 lbs (47.80 kg)

Fat Mass (FM) - 29 lbs (13.10 kg)

Body Fat Percentage (BF) - 21.51 %

 Can someone analyze or tell me what these mean, I barely have a clue, but comparing them to averages, I was above average on all them, but not by much,

There should be more info on that website to help you understand
all of those numbers. But Mine said that males have 15% body fat
on average, so depending on age you may need to lose a little
body fat although if your happy...don't worry!

I wouldn't recommend starting a diet at your age. You are still growing and it might all even out over time. I would start watching food intake though...Cut back on the Junkfood and try to eat fresh fruit and veggies instead. You probably heard all that before...:)
Also starting to exercise is a good idea. There are so many things you can do, especially now during the summer. I would recommend a team sport, because it keeps you more motivated than doing it alone...when your team mates depend on you for a tournament you probably won't skip practice....

thanks for the reply. I'm actually pretty active :p. I play baseball for 3 different teams, 2 CYO and a travel team, and I have a summer basketball team. Thanks again for everything! Instead of a diet I'm going to begin a lightweight workout plan, and watch my food intake. Thanks again guys. :)
