My Super-Interesting Life

Goals:
To gain more muscle tone in the lower body and maintain/improve upon arms/upper body. Present pictures to follow soon.
Weight:
50 Kg (more or less; will check and update)
Height:
5’5”

[Today's] Diet:
Breakfast:
1 glass of milk

Lunch:
Vegetable rice with curd (had carrots, onions, peas and I don’t remember what else)
One bar of chocolate (*guilty light flashes on and off*)

Tea:
2 bread sticks and half a tablespoon of cheese
2 tiny doughnuts, sugared
1 glass of milk

Dinner:
Khichdi (basically sticky rice with dal and... leaves)
Half an orange
1 bowl of pomegranate

Exercise:
Danced for thirty minutes like a woman gone insane; felt slightly giddy after.
4x10 parallel squats.
Did 45 minutes of cardio yesterday and used muscle pain as an excuse to not work out more.

I've started going to the gym... yesterday. I don't intend to lose weight, but my lifestyle is getting a little too sedentary for my liking; I thought I should get fitter.
Also, I have an indescribable fondness for chocolate - and right now there are about twelve bars lying around the house (not my fault; my friends decided to spoil me because my cat died). But it's mostly dark chocolate... that's not so bad, right? Right? RIGHT?
Please don't tell me I'm going to have to give it up to get rid of all the fat on my bottom. :(

Alright, so, as is also clear, I'm going to need all the motivation I can get, because I'm a lazy, lazy goil who's surrounded by fat people who tell her she "doesn't need to work out". OK? OK.

Honestly your diet is terrible, the best thing you can do now is reas the stickies in the nutrition section and look at the grocery list.

Other than that good luck :D

Looks like you are jumping into this thing with a full head of steam!!

I commend your efforts but am going give you some recommendations. I am basing this off my results (50 pounds lost 225 - 175 in 8 months on diet and running, core and biking (15 hours week :action8:)). Not an expert but I think I can help a little.

1.) Glass of milk for breakfast. Bad idea. Eat FOOD you need to use it all day. Don't be afraid to have a large (healthy whole grains, fruit) for breakfast. You need that energy to concentrate on the rest of your day. It will stop you from having those cravings at 9 AM. Big breakfast small dinner.

2.) Can you have little bit of chocolate? Of course, go for it. Every few days always give myself a little treat. An Andes mint, or a little bit frozen yogurt or ice cream. It helps you stay mentally "in it".

3.) You are trying to loose weight "Make every calorie count. Do not count calories." Look at the foods you are eating. Are they doing you any good? What are the benefits of eating one thing over another.

Example - 2 breadsticks, cheese and 2 sugared doughnuts vs. a salad with cranberries/grapes, grilled chicken/turkey/tuna and carrots, bell peppers and a vinegrette with a small side of lowfat cottage cheese. Plus and apple or banana and a glass of skim or 1% milk. The later of the option is more food and a heck of a lot better for you with less fat and more protein. Plus it's delicious.

3.) Set a goal. Not just some silly number. Wgt? or god forbid pant size. Pick a goal like a 5 km run in 20 min or # of pushups etc...

Please don't think I am berating you but please consider what you are eating. Anything crispy, fried (donuts) or "with special sauce" is something you really need to use sparingly. Eat veggies and fruit with lean sources of protein (soy, tuna (sushi), grilled poultry).

But looking at your wgt and height (50 k and 5'5") you can probably just eat a normal balanced diet (grains, veggies and fruit!!) and but work out more often and get great results. Do some cardio (like you are doing) and then follow it up with various core routines (pilates are awesome for getting a person more slender and feeing good).

100 calories = 1 mile of running

Keep it up and stay positive. It will work.

Thanks a lot, it's true I don't think about what I eat, I'll go read the nutrition section now ^^

Thanks Johnny, I know I should eat breakfast, I just somehow don't when I have school, because my mom is always so stressed out in the morning and I tend to avoid her and the kitchen... a silly excuse, I know.
Thanks for your other inputs too, I don't think you're berating me, it helps a lot because I'm a little lost right now. I don't know what kind of goals to set yet... 5k run in 20 minutes seems a little distant right now.

Good - glad you have the right attitude.

Look at those panels and learn how to eat.

I work in the food industry developing both the "better for you" stuff like Powerbars and Cliff bars but I also work with chefs at dinning chains like Chili's and Kentucky Fried Chicken developing "bad for you" stuff. I see a lot of bad food out there. It tastes good but is terrible for you.

In a previous job I had all of that "bad for you" stuff in my labs (kitchen) at any given moment. I used to work for General Mills (I WAS Betty Crocker, for real) and had cake cookies, brownies and frosting within an arm's reach for 8 - 10 hours a day. Talk about temptation!!!!!!!!!

Be smart about your choices and make sure you eat enough. Actually it's quite difficult to eat enough food when you cut out all the garbage. I am on a 3500 cal day program (but am very active). I find myself using powders to keep my protein levels where they need to be. Luckily I can get get them from my employer for free since we manufacture most of the stuff on the market right now.

Whole Grains, Fruit, Veggies, Fish and lean poultry are all excellent sources of everything you need.

Maybe you could help out Mom in the morning. Have breakfast together. A happy Mom leads to a happy house.

Enough preaching from me. I am sure you have better things to do.
