Weight-Loss my new diet

Weight-Loss
I am 31 I am trying a new diet where I eat only when im hungry(not emotional eating) and sometimes doing this I go to bed hungry because I thought the 2 hour thing was true but I would start eating carrots and celary the last 2 hours my goal is more to keep this up over the long term when eating a meal I will stop eating when I feal full enough. also I dont have a scale but I have maybee a 2 inch belly but I have been on a slightly differnet diet of excersize and stop eating when im full for about 6-8 months now but I just started the only eat when Im hungry plan I have an excized plan of I try to walk/jog comination (keeping my heart rate up for 30 minutes) 5 times a week but my unpredicable busyness (I live a sparatic life) so I try to do a mininum of 3 days a week 30min a day just keeping my heart rate up I have lost a fair amount so far my arms have been getting skinnyer along with other things. I am hopeing to just keep this up for a long peoid like years and to eventualy get skinny. people around me have noticed that I have lost a fair amount so I am fairly happy with what has happend so far

I would not recommend a diet based soley on eating when you are hungry, though the shift away from emotional eating is a plus. What it should be based on is a solid regime of real food (nothing that your great grandparents wouldn't recognize) and one that focuses on a healthy variety.

It is unrealistic to try to sustain any other method besides simply making consistently healthy food choices, and by that I do not mean only eating 'health foods' as they are for the most part inherently unhealthy to begin with.

Congratulations on your discipline, however, but be sure to eat enough that you are getting all that you need, if not you will lose weight, but most of it will be muscle mass, which will hurt you in the long run.

.

how do I know I am getting enough to eat so that I am not under doing it
also what are the long run consequences to not eating enough(muscle loss)

also isnt ok to eat some bad foods as long as it is in small amounts

thanks

I agree to BATMANNYC, a diet based soley on eating when you are hungry is not recommended. Diet is very important for weight loss, but a regular diet is much more important.

Studies show that 5 small meals is very healthy for people, especially for people who want to lose weight. Having a very small meal every 3 hours will help our body burn more fat than having a big meal a day.

Besides, for each meal, stop eating when you feel 70% full, ie, stop when you still want to eat. This will improve your metabolism.

I'm not sure why most of the discussions here don't agree with what you have chosen to do. I say congrats! No many people wait until they are hungry to eat. This is the best time to eat as long as you have something nutritious on you. What I would say however, is avoid leaving eating until you are famished.

One area of concern is going to bed hungry. Depending on what time you eat, say if it was in the afternoon, have a meal that contains protein. For instance, quinoa with a large green leafy salad containing half an avocado, some seeds, and any other veg you like and coat with some flax seed oil dressing. If you are not a vegetarian, have make a large green leafy salad or a mixed salad of raw veggies (grated carrots, courgettes, and anything else you like) with organic chicken or fish and salad dressing (preferably home made). This will fill you up for the rest of the day and because you would have eaten some protein, you will feel satisfied until the morning.

Important note: Have protein with each meal (porridge with nuts &/ or seeds, sprouted legumes (you can find these in the chiller cabinets in health food stores), green powder blends (i.e. wheatgrass) - excellent to put in a freshly made smoothie or juice, organic fish, chicken or game such as venison or the grains I mentioned. There are others, but too many to mention here.

is it ok to eat a little junk food as long as it is in moderation, small amounts

also off of this eat only when Im hungry I sometimes get a buzz when I crouch down then stand up it seems to be happening to me proboly every other day but like the last two days it happened just after I did my 30 minute excercize but today I did a hour excercize(not normal) and it happend like I said when I crouch down and comeback up for about 5 seconds then I eat then Im ok the other times I just got so busy I forgot to eat and it happend but the thing is that Im not hungry should I force myself to eat this would be a little frustraiting for me

thanks

Uh, I don't know what you are describing, but are you diabetic? Are you eating enough? It might be a good idea to see a doctor and have your sugars checked.

When you say you "crouch down" do you mean like you almost collapse? That is not good. You either aren't eating enough or something else is going on. A doctor visit couldn't hurt.

If you want to be really successful being vigilant with calorie counting is where its at. You can't go wrong. If you arent losing weight, you lower you calories a bit.

The spam above was correct about getting adequate protein. I've read (and try to meet myself) 1 gram of protein per 1 lb of Lean Body Mass (google for a calculator) is where you should shoot for to maintain your lean body mass (muscle and all that good stuff that isn't fat.) Also a simple weight lifting routine will help with maintaining muscle mass.

Read all the stickies on these forums. Theres so much information there that can help clear up misconceptions and dispell ignorance of a healthy lifestyle. They can also help you with where to start with calorie counting or other methods.

I am definitaltaly not diabetic and its not that I crouch because of the buzz no it I am doing something crouched down and when I get back up I sometimes get a buzz or it might not have anything to do with crouching down I think it is proboly just becuase I just excercised and I didnt have enouth energy to deal with my excercize but the thing is that I am not really hungry before my walk I ate a little before or sometimes just a little bit more just before I excercize to try to compensate for any energy needed. the buzz thing only happens once in a while and I think it deffinatly related to not eating enouth one time it was just a long day and I forgot to eat because of business

also what about the junk food question

thanks

slight change in how I do it today

a thing I just decided to do is to try to eat a little of something nutritious just before my walk and just after I didn't have that problem today :drooling:

You really need to just be vigilant with how many calories you eat. You can eat whatever you want if you keep to a caloric deficit, but I think you'd see better results overall if you use this to also make healthier decisions. Its a lot and hard to do (atleast for me) but its something to shoot for.

Eating junk food in moderation probably won't hurt, but remember you're calling it junk. I still eat things. I just got cinnamon buns last night and pudding.

I really shouldn't have though =P I went to market starving. Absolutely starving. Now that I remember everything I got I am very dissappointed in some choices. Too much pasta. Its just so cheap and easy. =-P sorry to go off-topic.
