My journey to fitness

Hello. I'm a 31 year old male, who in the past year has gained a significant amount of weight. I'm here for advice on how to lose enough weight so i will be comftorable at the beach shirtless next summer. I'm 5'9, 272 pounds. I'm rather stocky, so when I finally get my weight down, I'm very slim at 200 ibs. This is day 3, and I already feel better. My one year goal is to get my weight down to 200 ibs by August 1st of next year (2017)

Welcome to the forum. What are you doing to lose weight? Cardio, strength training, cutting out junk / eating healthy (obviously, I recommend all of the above). 200 lbs is doable, but putting all the pressure on the scale isn't always the best way to measure gains, as muscle mass will tip the scales and make you frustrated. Instead, focus on taking monthly pictures or do body measurements (waist, hips, arms, etc).

Thanks! First, my diet is going to put me into a ketogenic state because I have opted to follow the principle of a low carbohydrate diet. I'll be eating high protein- low carb foods 3-4 times daily. This will include chicken, eggs, tuna, salmon, shrimp and an assortment of vegetables. Furthermore, I plan on doing weight training and cardio several days per week. Nothing extreme, but enough to see some results.

Do you live with someone that can monitor you? To be successful in Ketogenics, you have to maintain less than about 20g net carbs / day (not just for part of the day), which is very hard on your body if you have never done it before. It's not something you should take lightly and you should have proper supervision.

I have experience, as I have utilized this diet before. My body responds pretty well to it actually. If I don't respond well to it, I most likely will utilize a diet in which I count my calories...

Paulie,
Congratulations on making this move to a new you. The diet you used before I assumed worked before, but know you have gained it back is that correct? I've been on many fad diets and have lost weight only to regain it back and more. May I suggest changing your eating and exercising lifestyle by eating the correct amount and types of foods and exercising to burn fat? Would you be interested in more info.
