Hi,
I am 44 years old and have been overweight most of my post-puberty life. I am 5'6" and my high weight is 222. On August 15th, I started (again) to eat healthy, exercise, and do strength training to get some of these extra pounds off. I started out eating 1200 calories a day but as I started to build muscle bumped it up to around 1500 calories a day. That's broken down into about 35% protein, 20% fat, 45% carbs. I go to the gym M-W-F. It takes me about 40 minutes to get through my weight lifting and I walk anywhere from 35-60 minutes depending on how much time I have. So, I've been doing this now for about 10 weeks. There have been a couple times I missed going to the gym for various reasons and a few times (mostly weekends) that i eat over the 1500 mark but never over 2000. The first two weeks I lost the initial 10 pounds that everyone expects to lose in water weight. I haven't lost an ounce since then! I AM going down in size. I went from a 20 being tight to a 16 fitting comfortably and, don't get me wrong, I am THRILLED with that but I don't want to be a size 10 and still weigh 210 pounds! Everyone keeps telling me to keep going as it WILL eventually come off and I guess I DO believe that but this is all so strange to me. Anytime I've ever followed this same strategy, I've religiously lost 2 pounds per week, so in theory, I should be down 20 pounds by now. I know I am building muscle which weighs more but I'd REALLY like to see that scale start moving! Thanks. I hope to keep my motivation up here.
