My first step

I'm just starting to get back into shape. It's been a while since I had a steady workout plan and I think it's about time I get one planned out. I would like to avoid weight lifting for the moment and focus strictly on cardio. At the moment due to poor diet I have no energy and I would like to change that by having a healthy diet and running so down the road I have the energy to lift weight and do other exercises. I have a few questions about getting started so if you could answer any of them I would appreciate it very much.

- I own a treadmill and a bike so would you recommend I use those or should I run outside?
- How many minutes or miles should I run a day?
- And lastly, How many times a day should I run and when is the best time? Morning, Afternoon or Evening?

Thanks a lot for any help! :)

You didn`t mention if you were trying to lose weight or not but you really should do a little resistance training along with the cardio. As far as energy goes, you are going to have to eat the right stuff and the more you exercise the more energy you get. Make sure you are doing total body movements like a squat to shoulder press with dumb bells. That will help strengthen your core muscles. The treadmill is great when the weather outside is not good. Running outside you will expend more energy so burn more calories. Alternating with cycling is great, running is stressful on the joints. Start out with like 25% intensity for 20 min and slowly work your way up. Start out by walking for a minute then go into a jog. It should be hard for you to have a conversation when you are running, then you know you are at a good intensity. You should do cardio at least 5-6 times a week

I'm happy with my weight, I actually want to put on around 10-15 pounds. The reson I want to run is to keep healthy and I'm also hoping to lower my body fat and work on getting my abs to show. Thanks a lot for the help, I appreciate it a lot and welcome to the community.

You are at very initial stage of your journey. Try to make a steady plan instead of taking it hard way. I would like to answer all of your three questions in simple way so that you know exactly what you really need to do. Here are the all answers:

• I personally suggest that both are preferable. I cannot run in a rainy day in outside. Also I like running outside most.
• Take it slowly. Run at least 15-20 minutes initially.
• Running 3/4 times a day is better and
• Morning is the best time to run.
