Hi everyone. I am from Japan and currently in my final year of university here in Australia. I am highly interested in health so I thought this would be an excellent forum to join. Today, I would like to ask for your advice. I am on low carbs diet, drink a lot of water and go to gym twice a week. I have no problem with my weight, however, I have always had pimples on my face since I was 15 or so. I thought pimple would disappear when I get older but after 5 years they seems to never clear up. I am thinking this could be the result of my junk food (chocolate and snacs) eating habit especially when I am under a lot of stress. Any tips for pimple eradication or prevantion would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

WHy are you on a low carb diet? Low carb diets (depending on how low your carbs are) is really not healthy for the body. We need carbs for so many vital body functions.

Yes, junk food can absolutely ause acne! A high amount of fat in the diet can also cause acne. For your health and for the acne you may want to consider making some diet changes. You may benefit from an overall low fat diet (but not too low as we do need fats for our body functions) rich in whole, unprocessed foods.

Any questions, I would be happy to help!

Sarah

Thanks Sarah! I will substitute my junk food to fruites and vegitables. Another question is that I eat a bowl of oats and raisons in the morning, have small amount of brown rice or pasta with vegi for lunch and no carbs at night but vegi and meat. Does this mean I am on low carb diet?

Hmmm, well that doe snot sound low carb to me. I'm not sure exactly how many carbs that is but it doesn't sound that low to me.
Do you only eat 3 times a day?

Sarah

If you were going for fat loss it would be very important to eat at least 6 small meals day to keep your metabolism up. Even though you aren't going for fat loss, it might be beneficial to eat more often so you can prevent future fat gain.
Just a thought for you.

Yes, junk food can absolutely ause acne!

I've never seen a study on this. I thought it was just a rumor? I've had many dermatologists say that was pseudo-science. I used to have horrible acne and the only thing that got rid of it was medication.

I also want to add that working out and eating well are good. But I think you should focus on eating more high fiber foods. I truly believe that distressed digestion/elimination systems are a MAJOR cause of acne.

Way back when I started eating more fiber and going to the bathroom much more regularly. This helped tremendously.

I've seen studies, not that I can remember when/where. Reasoning was because diets high in fat can lead to acne in some people, and of course, eating junk foods tends to lead to a higher fat intake. I have a friend who used to eat lots of good fats for the health benefits. She made a reduction in her fat intake after reading that high fats (good or bad fats) leads to acne then gave them up and her acne was gone.

I've also had clients tell me severeal times about their skin clearing up significantly after eating the nutrition plans I gave them, which meant less junk food and fats.

I definitely think eating well helps. I just don't know that I'd say "junk food causes acne." Eating well would most likely mean more fiber and vitamins. I think that's the secret bullet.

Thanks for responding.

I see your point. I was meaning more fat specifically than junk food, and it would have been more accurate to say that it aggrivates it, not causes it. Sometimes I type faster than I think. :p

Thanks for your advice guys! I have started buying many kinds of vegis and fruits and even cut off junk food. No more chips or deep frieds. Instead, whenever I develop cravings, I eat dark chocolate and drink a cup of tea or hot cocoa.
My friend who is currently studying to become a dietition, recommended a supplement called "psyllium husk". Have any of you heard of it before? What are your thoughts?
