Sport My caloric needs

Sport Fitness
Hi! I'm new here. I was wondering wether or not I'm consuming enough calories a day. I know your height and your age take account into c it: I'm almost 15, 5'0, and weigh 94 pounds. I usually eat about 1400 cals. a day. Is this enough, or should I be eating more?

It depends not only on your size, but also your level of activity and your goals. While calorie amounts are important, so is the quality of food. There are many people who eat double or triple what you eat and are totally undernourished!

I believe the general rule of thumb is 12-15 cals per pound of body weight for weight loss, 15-18 cals for maintenance, and I think 19-25 for weight gain. Please correct me if I am wrong.

But I don't always agree with those figures because they don't take into account a person's build, activity level, nor distinguish between fat and muscle. Not to mention, you are going to get totally different results from eating 1400 cals of junk and 1400 cals of good clean nutritios food.

Not sure if that helped or not...

It depends on about a million different factors. lol. When I do nutrition plans for people I ask question after question before determining the best calorie intake. The height and age thing may give you a good number of cals to eat, but it could be a few hundred off as well. Other factors can include your body type, metabolism, activity level, health background, diet background, what you are currently eating and how your body is currently maintaining and feeling, and the list goes on.

Do you know what you are eating now for calories? That's a good place to start. If you find out what you're currently eating and you feel like you're eating enough (not tired, enough energy for your workouts, not feeling hungry all the time) you may want to decrease by a bit and see how your body reacts.

Let me know if I can help more! Good luck.

Sarah
