My Big Fat Dumb Halloween Party

Halloween has always been a favorite holiday for me, each year I do-up the house with props n' stuff, but about 4 years ago things got a bit out of hand when we decided to regularly host an annual Halloween party....something we have become known for.

Our home is a 2-story colonial so it's perfect for it. Actually, Kraken's call it a Neo-Classical Southern Colonial Revival. :D

Beside our big yard, our biggest claim to party-fame is the Hummer Halloween Hayride of Horror...I attach a 6x10 trailer to the back of my H2 and run a hay-ride across the street to another property...it goes down a long driveway and into a backyard where we have a small garage....along the way there are all sorts of effects, we put black-lights on the trailer and there's a graveyard where people pop-up from graves, ghost float from the air, skulls pop up from behind tombstones, and a large framework is covered in glowing spider web and a large spider comes down, goes up and then about 125 small glow-in-the-dark spiders are dropped from the "womb". In the backyard we have a maze leading into the garage where we do some kind of 10-minute show.

I could write several many paragraphs offering details...but instead I'll just post some pics. At this point we just have the house all decorated for Halloween. Out in front of the house, hanging from a tree about 20-feet in the air, is a hanging illuminated skeleton, the gate is covered in lights, the brick pillars all have things on top of them. A hanging skeleton is above our front door...and all that good stuff.

I'm afraid you'll have to click on the thumbnails to expand the pics....I don't know much about "photobucket" or whatnot....

That is sooooooooooo cool BSL!!!!

Halloween is my favorite holiday ... mostly because I can dress up in stuff I can't normally wear :D

The Hummer Hayride sounds interesting.

Do you give hummers while on the hay wagon or are you driving the tractor?

The decorations look awesome dude. How long does it take to put all of them up? I just wish i lived in a neighbourhood where i could do stuff like that as we already have way too many light fingered goblins, trolls and ogres:rolleyes:

Now that is just awesome. :pain7:
What kind of job do you have? :D

I'm an Insulation contractor, but we don't do new-construction....we pull a hose into the house, go up into the attic and blow insulation on the floor of the attic. We also drill holes in walls and inject insulation too. Keeps the house cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter and saves on energy. We don't do rolled insulation, just blown insulation. So yes Kraken; my job, income and life are made and based on blow-jobs! ;) :animal3:

Quick story....it was about one year after the '94 Northridge quake, the economy was slightly down, people were leaving Calif and it was round-1 of the bank foreclosures (we're in round-2 at present). It took several months, but we were successful in buying this home as a red-tagged (damaged) fixer from the bank. It did NOT look like it does now. I gutted the house down to the concrete slab and wood framing. We then doubled the size, re-did all the plumbing & electric, new siding, roofing, drywall, flooring: EVERYTHING. We spent more money fixing/upgrading the house then we paid for it...and it took 3 years as we lived in the small guesthouse (now my gym) and I stubbornly did most the work myself. So it's not that I make big money, it's that I patiently hunted for the right house and did a lot of the work myself.

The roof on your garage has been converted? Cool place for a home gym I bet :)

Good eye there Typhon...nobody has ever noticed that in pics! Also funny; the city planning office saw the pitch on the roof of the garage and figured it might be converted one day...so they required me to install a ceiling that could carry a "live load" (or whatever they call it so it can support the weight of people, furniture, etc). Truth is, I don't intend to convert it at all...we have a drop-down staircase and I use the entire area (34x20) as a storage area....lol, that's where we keep the Halloween stuff, but there's plenty of room and the kids like to play up there.

The decorations look awesome dude. How long does it take to put all of them up?

Thanks. The decorations aren't a big thing....with two people it can be done in just a few hours, but we have things in boxes and it's all marked and easy to roll-out. The biggest aspect of the party is putting together the ride, the maze and the spook-house. HOURS & HOURS & HOURS.....it's just endless and when the party is over, we have all the clean-up to do. And mother-nature makes it tough because we can't set up too early due to wind & rain.

I'll take more pics as we put things together. I hope to capture some of it on video this year, but night-time and dark exposure is tough!

Sorry I just had visions of you giving hummers with a straw hat and a flannel shirt.

Sorry Jamestown....we won't be fulfilling any of your male-involved sexual fantasies; it's the Halloween ride, not the Hicksville Architect Redneck Exchange mixer ;) :D

Just the same, here's a Hummer in a Hummer for ya! :D
