My aunt suffers from thyroid problems

My aunt is the one who has been looking after me and my brother after the death of my parents in an air-crash. Now that she is getting old, it's my turn to look after her. Before she did not pay any attention to her health, she was busy looking after me and my brother. She used to suffer from thyroid problems but now the situation has aggravates. She has got a thyroid goiter in her neck and she is supposed to undergo a surgery to remove that goiter. Unfortunately my aunt is not ready to do that surgery, she is afraid of any kind of operation. She heard of a medication called synthroid (cytomel t4) which is used to treat thyroid problems and she would like to be on medication instead of undergoing a surgery. What do you think is the best way?? The surgery or medication?? Will she be at risk with the surgery??

we arent doctors here, just folks trying to lose weight... i could be wrong...

what does her doctor say?

pretty much what Jill said..

Get a second opinion, and not from strangers on an internet forum who aren't qualified to give a diagnosis to your aunt... Have her go to another doctor... and if she's afraid of surgery well what's the alternative?
