Music When Running?

For me, running without music is like forgetting to put shoes on. I just have to have it to keep myself motivated. I was wondering what others listen to when they run. Maybe I can boost up my playlist a little. I listen to a lot of electronic music and electropop stuff. High energy stuff with a heavy beat. Strangely, old video game music from my childhood and remixes of them seems to motivate me too.

What about all you guys?

Hip hop and rap is what I'm using atm

I usually do also, it helps the motivation late in a run. (80's metal, techno, trance, electronica, industrial, modern pop, etc...WIDE variety). But if I forget my tunes I can just as easily focus on my breathing or foot cadence or drift off into ambient sights and sounds (in the zone?).

I wish I could do that. I just start thinking about other things when I don't have music and end up playing with my phone or something. I'm trying to make a huge list of good running tunes, what are some of your favorites?

Have you searched the forum at all? I think there are now multiple threads going on this topic if you're looking for ideas.

Lately... I've been into guitar based bands with female vocals such as Evanescence (Amy Lee), Pat Benatar, Picture me Broken, The letter Black, Paramore, etc.
But I still enjoy: (alphabetically just a few) Alice in chains, Angel of dawn, Anna, Barcode, Bren R, Deadmau5, Dinka, Dio, Dj Rui Da Silva, Scrillex, FFDP, Flux Pavillion, Ghotti, Iron Maiden, KISS, Long way down, Mary J. Blije, Megadeth, Metallica, Motley Crue, Ozzy, Queensryche, RA, Rage against the machine, Ratt, Rush, Sevendust, Silverchair, Simply Red, Slipknot, The Police, U2, VanHalen.
I tend to be "anti" Itune and one of my favorite places to "discover" new stuff is unsignedbandweb.com. Most all of the music is free to download, with lots of Genre's to choose from. I browse through and download what I like then just transfer it to Mp3 player. That site has somewhat pulled me out of the mainstream music and allowed me to find what "I" like instead of what the music industry feeds everybody. I am in NO WAY affiliated or promoting the site, I just use it for fresh sounds. There truly are some great artists on there just browse around and see for yourself.

I suggest choosing a genre that boosts your mood/motivation and then try to build a playlist of songs with tempos appropriate to your pace. Some barefooters targeting 180 steps per minute will go with songs like Bowie's Modern Love. I usually run at 120-130 steps per minute and my absolute favorite song for that pace is Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5. At the end of the day though, you should choose the music that boosts and motivates you. If that is something unusual like Opera or Folk music, who cares?! It's your run and you playlist...YOU are the DJ and the only one listening. Happy running.

It's really motivating. But i do not like to listen hip hop or any kind. I am also used to listening music while running. I have some selected song which is most favorite to me for all time. Some of the music is very inspirational. All i want to start my each day with positive note. Good music is huge plus to me to start a great day.

Some of us feel tired while running. I would like to suggest them to listen music. Select whatever music they like. Music would motivate them greatly.
