Muscle pull

I did somethin to my back. Hopefully someone has experienced this and has an idea for treatment.
The pain starts at the base of the right shoulderblade and wraps around to the bottom of the right pec.
It's low level most the time, but when I sneeze it goes into red alert level 5 for about 10 seconds. Also, when I raise my right arm I can often feel a "pop" at the base of the right shoulderblade.
Any ideas what I've done and if so....what's the recommended treatment.
Oh yeah, pullups of any type don't work at this time.....
Thanks,

Go to a PT and have the injury examined/treated as soon as possible.

After you know what the problem is, you should do your best to get a good range of motion back without any pain. Avoid any lifting that aggravates the injury as this will just set you back further.

Is there any swelling or bruising?

No noticable swelling, no bruising. It's just when I activate the lat the pain becomes evident. I was told that i perhaps tore an "intercostal" at the ribs. The pain, though, is much greater in the back at the base of the shoulderblade.
Thanks

There one answer, Rest Rest Rest, Rest it for as long as possible. It may take weeks to go, months or even up to a year to totally die away. Do not try and do any exercises at all, as your shoulder blades are practically used in all exercises, and just in day to day life.

I'd go with the rest, rest, rest option and if the pain persists, then see a Doc.

It almost sounds like you might have pulled one of those muscles that wraps around your ribs. I did that once back when I was playing ball and man it hurt like hell when I extended my ribs to take in a deep breath or stretched it.

The thing is, it could be anything. A week or two off is probably a good thing, but let pain be your guide.

If its just a strained muscle then ice will help it on its way. Get a coolpack (or a bag of pees) and stick it over the painful site for 20 mins. put some thin material between it and your skin to avoid irritation; do this a few times a day. Rest is also a good idea, though it probably won't need more than a couple of weeks. In the meanwhile you could do other things to stay active (cardio or leg work which doesn't involve the arms). Try to avoid anti-inflammatories if possible, they have their place but are usually overused. If you've torn a muscle it will obviously take longer to heal. If it doesn't clear up or gets worse see a doctor or chiropractor (or both!).

Well, it's been 6 months since the initial injury took place and I'm still not 100% healed. Better....but not all the way. So... I'm off to the Chiropractor's office today. Fortunately I've located one with a specialty in Sports Medicine who, by coincidence, just returned from a seminar on Golf Injuries.
I've taken everyone's advice, (Rest, Ice, Heat, Stretching, Anti-Inflamitories) and have done fairly well. So...thanks for the input.
But....I guess it's time to halt the self-diagnosis and begin the healing. Just FYI, I'll post what the Doc gives as a diagnosis and treatment in case any of you suffer from lingering effects of your injuries.
Thanks again,
