More Knee Stuff! (sorry)

I was playing football (soccer) a few weeks ago and while i had no pain immediately after the game the next day i woke up with a pain at the top right hand corner above my knee cap. It wasnt a devistating pain but enough to sotp me running, after a few days it subsided and i went for a run and felt fine. However for the following 2 weeks it has flared up now and again never real pain but just an uncomfortable twinge, both my knees have always clicked and crunched a little but im sure the sore knee is making a louder crunch than before. Basically what id like your opinion on is, what do u think, wear a knee brace and do some gentle runs etc? see a doctor? any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks alot

Top right hand corner of which knee? The right or the left?

Do you have chondromalacia? Does your knee sound like celery cracking when you go upstairs?

Don't get a knee brace just for the sake of getting a knee brace. Whatever is wrong with your knee will dictate the style of knee brace you will want to have (if you decide to even get one).

I'd go see a sports physician. Get some X-rays, too. Those will show any arthritic changes to the joint.

I'd go to the doctor first, ask for some X-rays, then see what happens from there. I'm not quite sure how the system works where you live ...

You might want to try rolling out your IT band (iliotibial band). That's the lateral side of your upper leg. When the IT band gets tight, it can pull the knee joint out a bit and can cause pain. And your glutes might also be tight (which can cause the IT band to tighten up as well).

NOTE: do not roll the IT band down any further than the bottom of your vastus lateralis (the quad muscle on the outside part of your leg) and on the way up, keep the roller below the bottom of your hip joint. If you roll your IT band too far on each end, it gets irritated, and then you're dealing with another problem altogether ...

I'll try get an appointment and in the mean time follow your suggestions. It can take a while to get seen by physical therapists here if its not an emergency unless you go private which costs big $$$$. Thanks for takin the time to reply! much appreciated :D
