Hi everyone,
I had a newsletter emailed to me by my consultant (in Canberra) with a list of foods that are also allowed on the program. Maybe everyone gets the same newsletter, but just in case they don't I thought that I would add the list to the forum.

SOME EXTRAS THAT ARE ALLOWED ON THE PROGRAM PROTEIN
Ostrich
Venison, as red meat
Crocodile, as red meat
Tempeh / Temph in place of tofu allowance (only if you have it included in your “prescription”)
Bantam Eggs

CONDIMENTS
Mustard Seeds
Tabasco Sauce – small quantities
Lemon Grass
Brown Rice Vinegar
7 Seas Spice
Garlic Salt
Peri Peri
Vegetable Salt - in place of salt
Soya Mayonnaise – low fat and no sugar

DRINK
Ginger slice or two in hot water as a tea

VEGETABLE
Rocket
Pickled Onions – as long as no sugar oil or heavily salted
Spring Onion – limited amount
Mushrooms Exotic – i.e. oyster, shiitake

I hope that it adds some variety to your foods,
Kristi

Thanks Kristi

I have just finished refeed those extra's would definitely have added more vairety, especially the perri perri.

I am sure the Newbies will look forward to new foods though.
Sam:)

Thanks for the extra food advice - I love peri peri. What is Temeph? I have the tofu allowance and I had it the other night and so far it has been the only meal I have had to force myself to eat. OMG just the thought of it is making me feel sick. I used to eat it from time to time but obviously the taste I can remember was made up of banned food!! any suggestions on preparing the above would be great.
Cheers

I Haven't received this email in Tas. What is Peri peri? I have always eaten spring onion (limited) as I was told by my consultant that onion included all onion. But pickled onions-yum, I love them. I think they always have sugar added though. I had asked my consultant about chinese(exotic?) mushrooms & she said they had to be re-hydrated before you weigh them so I haven't bothered. Fresh mushrooms weigh so little so I use them. Rocket is just another lettuce I think & I am allowed any lettuce.
One thing I can't figure is why we are not allowed to have prepared mustard, i.e. seeded French mustard, that doesn't have any sugar added. I love it with a steak or added to my oil-less vinaigrette.

Snakes Alive: I have seen Tempeh in the soy products section of Coles, so I am guessing that if you don't like tofu, then you probably wont like tempeh either! The only meal that I have had to force myself to eat was soup made with kangaroo - I gave the rest of the kangaroo meat to our dog!

Cate: Peri Peri is a hot spicy sauce. I am pretty sure it is made with chillies, but I don't eat hot food so I could be wrong. I also looked for pickled onions and I couldn't find any that didn't have sugar, but it's nice in theory - or maybe it's not too hard to make them.

hi kristi.
i rang up my clinic and they said they have heard nothing about new foods or condiments being introduced so i have not touched anything (although the taste of peri peri calls my name :)).
what clinic are you with??

My clinic details

Hi FatCat,
I did think maybe I should put a disclaimer : "check with your consultant", but I thought that every consultant would have the same info! I certainly don't blame you for being cautious. To be honest, there isn't much on the list that attracts me, so I haven't really added them to my list of allowed foods.

I go to the Erindale Clinic in Canberra - which I think is the only one here. There are two consultants Lorraine and Valerie, but the email came from Lorraine (who I think owns the clinic). If your consultant wants to call their number is 02) 6231 7788 Fax: (02) 6231 7799
E-mail: lorraine.r@lifestyleclinic.com.au

I have copied the whole email into MS Word so that I can post it as an attachment. It is called "slim news", the list of foods is towards the bottom.

Good luck with re-feed, it doesn't sound like you will need a list of allowed foods for much longer :D
Kristi.
