MOLDS.. & .. MYCOTOXINS
Molds are a organism which are neither plant nor animal... They are part of the fungi kingdom... Unlike plants ... fungi do not get their energy from photosynthesis. ..
In fact the sun's ultraviolet rays inhibit fungal growth...
Molds digest or eat the material they are growing on. The role of a mold is to break down decaying matter such as plants.. leaves.. &.. of course animals...
Mycotoxins are toxins produced by mold species. Myco = fungal and toxin = poison. These mycotoxins are some of the most toxic substances none in existence...
Mycotoxins are not like a mold spore. They are a metabolite, or a product of a fungal metabolism.. that is .. the organism omits .. or .. puts out to kill bacteria .. or .. other molds.
Mycotoxins are also very toxic to all animal groups.. even in a low concentration. Other... low molecular weight metabolites .. such as .. ethanol are only toxic in high concentrations...
Aflatoxin made by Aspergillus mold is the most well known.. because .. it is very toxic.. &.. carcinogenic ( cancer causing )...
The American Food and Agriculture estimates that at least 25% of all the worlds food crop is contaminated with Aflatoxin and other mycotoxins.
Though reducing steps are taken, it is impossible to eliminate...
Mycotoxins.. have also been found in our pets food supply..
Ya know .. dogs and cats .. are coming down with human auto-immune diseases.
Between 2005 and early 2006 more than 23 dogs died of Aflatoxin contaminated Diamond Brand dog food.
Mycotoxins on are constant contaminate of our grain supply, yes.... our entire grain supply, all breads, all cereals, all of it. Mycotoxins are heat stable, you can cook off the mold, but the toxin stays...
Aflatoxin is produced by the Aspergillus family of molds and is most prevalent in corn.. cotton.. peanuts.. &.. tree nuts.
Fungus growth can continue in storage under certain environmental conditions. Aflatoxin can be caused by several vectors.. but .. is most commonly related to drought-stressed corn .. followed by periods of high humidity... Aflatoxin is more commonly occurring in southern states...
