Moderation and Happiness? Possible? I think so :)

Hmm where to begin...I've been on my health and fitness journey for three years now and I have certainly had my ups and downs. Over the course of those years I competed in 3 women's amateur figure competitions, worked with 2 personal trainers, got my black belt in Jeet Kune Do and continued to teach 8th grade L.A. and work my part time job at Dunkin Donuts, in the middle of all that...They were busy anxiety filled years; now it wasn't all bad. I did take home two 2nd place trophies in my most recent NGA figure Comp, and learned a ton about myself in the process.

Lessons learned over the last 3 years:
1. I do not need a trainer to tell me what to do. ( I get stubborn and I fight back when trainers get pushy, and my last one got pushy)
2. I know how to eat clean, but moderation is a problem. Post competitions I binge to make up for what I see as major deprivation. (Currently working on moderation, like 1 piece of pizza on Saturday night, not the whole pie).
3. I can create my own workout plans and that I truly like to lift weight, and I am now doing so for myself. No more trainers and no more competitions for at least a year.
4. I also learned that life is a lot easier when you surround yourself with positive, helpful people, who support your goals, like my current boyfriend. He actually trains with me once a week now, when his karate school is closed, and listens too and respects my knowledge in and around the gym. ( I have an ISSA certification.)
5. The biggest lesson of all, that it's ok to ask for help when you need it. :)

My hope is that this new journal will help me moderate my eating habits and increase my workouts, so that I can gain the mass I need to truly belong on stage in my next competition. NGA November 2013.

The attached photo is from my last competition on August 20th, 2011. I took home 2nd place trophies in the figure novice division and the women's open short division.

Congratulations on the road so far, and welcome to the forums. I'll look forward to seeing what your training's like as you start logging stuff in here :)

Thanks Goldfish :)

I lifted back and bi's last night with a friend of mine, and I have to say that I like having a training partner. Up until now I've always lifted along, or with a trainer, I'm not much of a team player and weights was "me" time. But a woman I work with has been following my fitness journey for some time and comes to me for advice on about exercise and diet. Finally she just asked if you she could come to the gym with me, and I said yes.

I like to be myself in the gym so taking her with me was a huge step, but it's nice to have a buddy and the support.

We did supersets last night.

Lat Pulldown/ Bicep cable curls
Seated row/ db curls
Laying Stiff arm pullovers/barbell curls
DB row/Hammer curls

Then I stayed and did 30 min on the stair mill. I went through a major emotional eating binge after this last comp, and put on 12lbs since August. I competed at 105 (water depleted) and I'm now at 121lbs, the emotional eating is hard control so I am increasing my cardio. I go to spin 3 time a week and mix up my cardio post weights on Tuesday and Thursday. I did make it to the 5:45 spin this morning, despite the chilly S. Florida morning :)

Right now the focus is on me. Getting healthy, getting happy and following through with my workouts.

You educated yourself which is far better than any trainer you'll ever hire.
