Hmm where to begin...I've been on my health and fitness journey for three years now and I have certainly had my ups and downs. Over the course of those years I competed in 3 women's amateur figure competitions, worked with 2 personal trainers, got my black belt in Jeet Kune Do and continued to teach 8th grade L.A. and work my part time job at Dunkin Donuts, in the middle of all that...They were busy anxiety filled years; now it wasn't all bad. I did take home two 2nd place trophies in my most recent NGA figure Comp, and learned a ton about myself in the process.
Lessons learned over the last 3 years:
1. I do not need a trainer to tell me what to do. ( I get stubborn and I fight back when trainers get pushy, and my last one got pushy)
2. I know how to eat clean, but moderation is a problem. Post competitions I binge to make up for what I see as major deprivation. (Currently working on moderation, like 1 piece of pizza on Saturday night, not the whole pie).
3. I can create my own workout plans and that I truly like to lift weight, and I am now doing so for myself. No more trainers and no more competitions for at least a year.
4. I also learned that life is a lot easier when you surround yourself with positive, helpful people, who support your goals, like my current boyfriend. He actually trains with me once a week now, when his karate school is closed, and listens too and respects my knowledge in and around the gym. ( I have an ISSA certification.)
5. The biggest lesson of all, that it's ok to ask for help when you need it.
My hope is that this new journal will help me moderate my eating habits and increase my workouts, so that I can gain the mass I need to truly belong on stage in my next competition. NGA November 2013.
The attached photo is from my last competition on August 20th, 2011. I took home 2nd place trophies in the figure novice division and the women's open short division.
