mission impossible?!

Hey everyone,

I have read that trying both to build muscle mass (gain weight) and losing fat at the same time is fruitless because to gain muscle mass you will need a lot of calories and that in itself will make you gain a little fat as a result. Is this true? I've been working out really hard with the weights (4 days a week, a body part a day) and I have also been doing a lot of cardio (4 days a week as well). Am I cancelling out the effects of each?!? I have noticed that my stomach is looking nicer and my abs are starting to show through but I haven't gained much muscle mass (I am getting toner though) infact over the last month and a half I have probably lost 2 pounds (probably fat). Am I trying to achieve the impossible or will I have to choose one or the other?

Thanks for listening!

personally, i think you're doing great. i read many times how ppl ask should they cut or bulk first. my response is, JUST HOLD YOUR NOSE, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND JUMP IN!!!!!!!

start lifting, start doing cardio, start eating right and thats what you have done. after awhile you'll get a better understanding of how your body reacts to something things and you 'll make your own calls if you want to train exclusively for cuts or for mass. :)

Hi, I'm new here. Searching for a board where I fit still. Hope this info helps.

For a gaining routine you should still eat clean. Not junk. Add 300-500 extra calories to your daily diet. You will have to know what your mainance caloric needs are and go from there. If the additional 500 calories are from low glycemic carbs and lean protien. You should see the results that your after.
Maybe your cardio is being over done. Try 20 min for 3 x a week and see if you gains some size. Don't watch the scale watch the mirror and the waist line.
Confuse your metabolism, have a higher carb intake day once a week. Whole grain cereal, brown rice, sweet potato, etc. Another approach is to do higher carbs for 4 days and low for 3, again your confusing the system and you should gain size not fat.
Good Luck, Di
