Mini plateau already? At my weight???

For the first 5 weeks of my healthy eating program I lost 27 lbs from 367.8 to 340 give or take a few oz. Every day up til a week ago the scale said I lost close to 1 lb, every day. Now nothing......for seven days. I have changed nothing. 1 hour of treadmill every day, salad for lunch every day, and a healthy dinner. What do you guys think......cant be that im at a plateau at my weight. 2 factors that might effect my loss is that I dont eat breakfast(never hungry) and I am 40 (slower metabolism?). I am not sure on my calorie intake for the day but it is alot less than before starting. Should I exercise more, mabey adding another 30 min treadmill at night or cutting back on a few more cals? It just seems weird to go from appx. 1 lb a day to nothing in 1 week.

1 week without a loss does not a plateau make...

Your age has little to do with it either...

How many calories a day are you getting?

Doesn't sound like a lot... I'd increase them if you're under 2000...

For the first 5 weeks of my healthy eating program I lost 27 lbs

1% of your body weight is about 3.5 pounds a week. So after 6 weeks, you'd expect to have lost 21 pounds. So figure 8 weeks to earn 27 pounds of real weight loss. You've got 2 more weeks with no movement on the scale before you're back on track.

If you see movement before then, call yourself lucky and move on. :)

Changing my plan a little.

Thank you Mal and Ally for your input. My calories today are about 1360 so far and I will have a 100 cal snack pack later so 1460 for the day minus 300 for the 1 hour on the treadmill = 1160 so that shoud be a decent deficit in calories for weight loss, right? It does sound like I do need to increase my cals, normally my cals are closer to 1800 but I had soup today for lunch instead trying to jump start my weight loss again. Thanks again.:seeya:

I wouldn't expect to lose weight that fast. When I first started losing weight last summer I lost 20 pounds in 20 days. It wasn't all real weight I lost. It came back up to equal 8 pounds lost total. From then on it's been fairly steady at 1.5 pounds a week for 7 months.

Should I exercise more, maybe adding another 30 min treadmill at night or cutting back on a few more cals? It just seems weird to go from appx. 1 lb a day to nothing in 1 week.

If you've been following the same routine for that amount of time, your body is probably taking it for granted. Perhaps you should switch up your routine a bit by adding more resistance on the treadmill? Maybe add some ankle and hand weights and walk on the t/m for the same amount of time with just a little added weight.

I think u can get the 2 & 5 lb velcro-on weights for less than $10 at a department store like taget or wal-mart.

Good luck! sounds like you are doing good so far. What did the DR recommend?

Also, to track cals taken in vs. going out I use to journal my food. I'm brutally honest. Last wk I over-indulged @ Pizza hut. I had a 2500 calorie day. My activities & basal calories burned that day were 3100. I didn't lose a whole lot since then, but I haven't gained either. It's a delicate balance. I try to keep my calories in at 1/2 of what's going out per-my lifestyle. For a steady weight loss. I also increase activity by a few mins/day.

ok it has resumed.....

Thanks VTMtnGirl for the input. I have started keeping track of the calories that I eat and also increased the treadmill to include 30 min at night and I have resumed loosing weight. I guess I will continue like this until i stop loosing than change it up.:hurray:

Your metabolic rate has probably slowed a little but remember that first few weeks of weight loss is frequently a combination of body fat AND water.
When your system starts to work out what is happening, especially if you have a sensitive metabolism, then it can slow.
You might like to cycle your carbs to lower and higher days and change the routine to kick the rate back up.

Change it up!

Thanks emmajames, that is exactly what I will do. Every time I see the scale stalling I will change my calorie intake and amount of exercise until I find something that works, I have no time limit so to give a new "routine" a week to see if it works is possible, and if it does'nt change it up and try that out for another week. Since I changed my lunches the weight has continued to come off. Thanks.

PhoenixRisin-
27lbs is a great accomlishment- CONGRATULATIONS!:hurray:

I agree with maleficent, get your caloires up to at least 2000 per day. Make an extra effort to eat breakfast, even though you don't feel like it. Make sure you're eating protein and veggies (or fruit in the morning or around workout time) at every meal. 1 hour on the treadmill is already excessive, don't add more time to that.

i've been in a plateau myself for 4 weeks, but i lost an inch on my waist so it's not all a failure, stick with it, plateaus like to play with ya, make you want to throw in the towel when you might be pleasantly surprised.:waving:

Thanks

Thanks west and ez for the input, advice and suggestions. I know that "stalling" is just part of the process and I will keep my motivation up and continue on!
