I am making big changes in my life, on several fronts. It's exciting.

First step I took as far as weight loss goes.....

a) less coffee
b) sleep full night to get hormones in check
c) if I fail to sleep, do as much relaxation as possible the next day, knowing my body is already in a stress state

The idea behind these is to set myself up for optimal outcome.

I may have a shin stress fracture, so the exercise part is frustrating.

Hi Minalina and welcome to the forum! A shin fracture sounds painful, even if it´s "just" a fissure. Do you normally work out a lot? Sleeping enough definitely helps me deal with cravings - when I´m tired it´s so hard to keep my hands out of the cookie jar! (Ok: I don´t have a cookie jar but I do live way too close to several grocery stores full of cookies).
Best of luck!

Thank you! The fracture isn't diagnosed but I don't think it's "just" shin splints. In one month I have an appointment to check on it. I never work out very much, but I do from time to time make an effort. I'd like for it to just become more integrated and a way of living. It turns out that lately I am better able to integrate new habits. Maturity? My husband bought 2 big boxes of croissants. That's like a cookie jar. Yesterday I hadn't slept enough and had 3 croissants between lunch and dinner. But last night I slept so today I was able to resist pretty well. It makes a huge difference. I feel like this stuff is too mundane or boring to talk about with people I know so that's why I am writing here! Lol.

We all know THAT feeling! Around here people genuinely want to hear about your "mundane" diet and fitness attempts, warts and all. Being able to resist croissants when they're right there is pretty awesome!

Also: I've had shin splints and some days walking literally made me cry and I had to stand still to wait for the pain, goosebumps, and cold sweat to go down a little. Fingers crossed your doctor will be able to help you, no matter what diagnosis you get.

Hi, Minalina & welcome to the forum. We won't get sick of hearing about your diet & fitness goals. That's why I came here in the first place as I felt people's eyes glazed over whenever I talked about it. I have an appointment in a month to see an ortho too & am limited with what exercise I can do for now. I have a torn meniscus in one knee. Shin splints sound nasty!

Bad injuries require a lot of patience and faith. That sounds hard. I remember when I had a bad injury there were days I was sure it wouldn't get better. It eventually got better. But it took 1.5 yrs. And about half way through I thought it wouldn't get better!

That same day, I ended up eating 3 croissants. But since then I've eaten decently.

I still don't drink much coffee, just the tiny cup.
I really do think that's at the habit level already. So progress. I had to really mentally link coffee to tense muscles to kick the habit of drinking too much to make it easier. I may try to cut it even further.

Note to self: visually link the food/beverage to the negative effect. So it's an automatic connection at the sight of the food. Very visual. This negative association seems to work better than a positive association to good food. Weird.
