Sport Men's One a Day

Sport Fitness
Well, i am 15 and currently looking for a good multi vitamin. I Used to use what my doctor gave me, but now i need to find some otc stuff. And i was wondering if i could use men's one a day at my age. The directions on the bottle just say adults. Yeah i know 15 is a teenager, but the bottle would likely specify with warning if under 18 or something. So should i use men's one a day or is there some other one that i just haven't seen?

not a big fan of one a day, but full size mutli's at your age is totally fine, people say it wont cause it's taboo i think, but from a biological standpoint you are mature enough to handle the extra doses.

agree...one a day is crap. anything that looks like it has a hard candy shell...crap.

I like Source Naturals - Life Force multi.

I'd check out a local vitamin shop or GNC and stop in there and pick up a multi-vitamin. I agree with everybody else, one a day sucks.

Note that "men's" multivitamins typically do not contain iron supplementation, since iron deficiency is rare men in rich countries. Men have a lower iron requirement than women of child bearing age to begin with, and are more likely to eat iron rich foods (e.g. meat).

Men who have a gene that increases iron absorbing may be vulnerable to storing too much iron that damages their organs, a condition called hemochromatosis.

Ok i would NOT go to GNC for a vitamin...or anything really. Maybe to look at supps, read the labels...but they are so over priced and I cannot stand their sales strategy of trying to shove other supps into my purchase.

they are like drug dealers. they'll give you a 2 week supply of an NO2 product just to get you hooked and coming back for more. that was the last time I shopped there.

Last time my wife went there to look for a better protein power flavor, she left with a $200 package for a fat burning program... /sigh

Whether you should take a multi is a rather involved but ultimately pointless discussion that ends at, 'It probably won't hurt, but there are no real assurances it will help, either.'

1 A Day tests pure and has 100% of most of the basics. No more, no less. And nothing else. It is also much easier on the wallet. For these reasons, and in light of the above paragraph, I would say, sure.

While you're at it, you should probably get some quality fish oil. It's good for your everything.

Agree on the fish oil. I disagree on the one-a-day. Some vitamins are much more bioavailable than others. So, sure you can take the one vitamin but you might only absorb 10% of it or you can spend a bit more and absorb a lot more of it.

Yup. Not gonna argue with that. I might be willing if the OP hadn't left it in so up in the air as to what exactly "good" means, here. Which is to say, I'm not sure I buy into the whole bioavailability of vitamins and minerals thing (because I haven't seen a single study thereof to my standard of rigor), but it stands to reason that whole = better.

But then, if that's where we're going, I want to know what the OP is eating, and then to impress upon him the fact that getting quality nutrition from whole foods would be better than any multivitamin under the sun, most likely. I am of the opinion that if your diet consists of white bread and jolly ranchers for example, that you have no business even spending money on a multivitamin.

Well, i am eating a variety of foods, usually what my mom cooks...and i get a range of nutrition, chicken and beef are my most common meat source, fish and pork come next. Eats mostly green veggies, love fruits, but allergic to many of the preservatives on the peels, so have to go to organic market for those, but the closest one is so far away =/ eats cereal with milk for breakfast often. NutriGrain Bar for snack at school, and a variety of other snacks throughout the day
