Hey everyone! My name is Melanie and I'm a newbie here. I'm 15 and a sophomore in high school. Basically, I'm here to lose weight and feel good about myself. I'm a little over 5'1" and about 136 lbs. YIKES! But by summer I'd like to be around 105 or 110.
From reading around, I know that there's a lot of people on this site that I can learn from, so feel free to post here if you have any insight or suggestions for me. I'm totally willing to listen!
I'm not really sure where to start, but I think I'll set a mini-goal for myself for now - 10 lbs by April 1st. (Does that sound do-able?) I'll try to post as much as I can to stay on track with my eating and exercise. I feel like I'm at the prime of my life and I should be having so much fun, but this weight is holding me back from so much.
Anyway, wish me luck, I'll be posting!

Good Morning, you have come to the right place for your weight loss.Everyone here is super supportive. You probably get this all the time"you're young and shouldn't worry 'bout your wieght,have fun, your weight is fine". To be honest that's what I'm thinking, But I better put my foot in my mouth. At your age my weight was also a huge issue for me and still is. So Good luck to you. And the best way to lose those pounds is to do it the HEALTHY way:D .
So whenever you are feeling sad,mad confussed,happy be sure to write in your dairy. And don't get discourged. Keep postive. Have a good one and I'll be back to see your progress.BYE!!!!!!!!
 
Monday, March 6

So, today was Day 1 of my "lifestyle change" and it's gone pretty well so far. According to fitday.com I've eaten 432 calories, mostly carbs. But everything I've had today was healthy. Since it's raining and I need to work out, I think I'll do some kind of exercise tape or something.
Does anyone have any suggestions about when and how often to weigh-in? I know I've just started, but I'm wondering, should it be once a week, everyday, or what?
I'll try to check back in after dinner to total all my calories and start planning for tomorrow. :)
 
Hey Girl,
Everyone is different when it comes to weigh in. Some wiegh once a week in the morning others weigh once every two weeks. If you wiegh in daily it could work for you to see where your at daily or if you want a surpise then weekly. So it's really up to that mind of yours:D So good luck and keep positive

So, since this afternoon I've eaten dinner and now my calories are up to 891. I haven't exercised at all yet, but I'm hoping to fit that in before bed. But right now I'm completely smothered by homework and tests I need to study for. We'll see how it goes.
 
Tuesday, March 7

So, last night I had some popcorn after dinner, so my complete total was about 963, but I ended up not exercising at all.
Today I've eaten 170 and I'm dying for a snack. But other than that, things are going really well so far. I think that checking in here a couple times a day will really keep me on track. It's been working so far. :)
Hopefully I'll fit in some exercise tonight.
 
You Are Doing Good But Watch Out For Not Getting Enough Calories Or Your Body Will Think Your Starving It And Hold Onto The Fat!!

Just checkin on ya. I would habe to agree with RN.
I remeber when I was loosing weight before I would only eat 800 cal a day and burn 600 cal a day. Yeh weight drop like crazy real fast but i did lose alot of muscle and held onto the fat:mad: How are you feeling through the whole day??? do you got energy???? Cuase if your tired all the etime then it is time to add more calories. You should look up on the internet for your height, weight and calorie intake. It would really help you decide on how much to eat. So, keep posting and have a good one
 
Tuesday, March 7

I just finished dinner (a homemade hamburger :eek: ) and now my calories are up to about 1100 for the day. The good news is that I've had a lot more protein than yesterday, but the bad is that I've also had a lot more fat. So don't worry guys, I'm eating plenty, I promise!
I'm pretty sure that I'm done eating for today, but I really need to fit in some exercise. Maybe I'll try in the morning before school. It's so hard for me to do it right before bed. Plus, I heard that working out before you've eaten helps to target fat or something.

Good Morning!!!!!!!!! You better be at school at this time:D No playing HOOKY!!! Instead of eating a Hamburger with red meat you should try Turkey Patties. The y are only 160. And not so much fat. So you won't feel so yucky and on the side yo ucould have them baked chips are steamed veggies. Just some suggestions for ya. Hope you have a good one and stay positive

Last night I had a few extra calories after dinner and totalled in at 1247.
But so far today I've got only 390. My mom just made some delicious banana bread, and my dad went shopping and came home with bagels and even more bread. I'm trying to stay away as much as I can.:(
I haven't really told my parents that I'm trying to lose weight, because it's kind of an embarrassing topic for me. And since they don't know, they keep offering me high-calorie foods and it's getting harder to resist.
And I'm noticing that the more stressed out I get, the more I want to eat.
On the bright side, I exercised a little bit today before school. In pe we also had to walk laps on the track, so I got an hour's worth of walking in.

Just ignore all them breads:D yah right huh!!! I can't even do that. As long as you keep working out you'll be fine and still drop the weight. Like they say "portion control". In my opion, those turkey burgers are great. They don't taste any different. Okay I'm lying:p Just a little different, but a good difference. Just try it and see how your taste buds react to it. Have a good one.

So, for the last few days I've been super busy and super stressed, and I've gone way over my calories. I felt horrible about it, so fat and gross. But I'm trying to get back on track, and today's gone well so far. Be back later!
 
Hey Melanie dont be so hard on your self everyone has a bad day (or 2or 10)LOL but like all of us you are commited to this right even when you stumble. GET back on the road to health .Good luck know you can do it your so young good time to get a handle on this thing!!!

Okay, total so far is only 473. And I've eaten a lot today, and a lot of protein. I weighed in this afternoon at 135.5 :( So I've lost a 1/2 lb...it's not bad to lose weight, but it's not an impressive loss either. Hopefully from here things go more smoothly.
A quick question: does anyone have an idea about what percentage of fats, carbs and protein I should eat to lose weight? Fitday gives me all the numbers, but I don't know how to judge them. I've been thinking that carbs=bad, protein=good, and fat=sometimes good.??? Any other ideas?

Wow. So today, I've only eaten breakfast and I've already had 415 calories. :mad: I guess I'll have to stay away from bread, and go light on lunch and dinner.
On the bright side, I weighed in today at 135. It doesn't seem like much, but losing 1 lb makes me feel like I'm on my way.
 
your doing great and one is better than none remember that ok? I think you are on the right track, try eating lots of veggies raw prferably and protiens other than that give in once in awhile to the things you love all will work out just keep moving your bod and you will loose you'll see Karrie
