Hey all,

I'm new here. I'm 24 years old, 5'10," and I currently weigh 144 lbs. I know that I'm not obese, but I'm definately carrying more weight than I'm comfortable with. I would really like to slim down to 129, which is what I weighed pre-college. I just finished my first year of medical school, so basically, I spent my entire year sitting on my butt in a library or studying in coffee shops and sucking down lattes. Neither of which have been good to my figure!

Ever since the weather broke in spring, I've been trying to get more physically active. I've been walking A LOT and I've been doing some running and swimming. I guess I can feel myself starting to tone up again, but it seems like I never make any progress toward my goal weight. I generally manage to eat a very healthy diet during the day, but I usually lose it at night eat a ton of junk food. So it's no surprise the weight stays on.

It's all very frustrating, so I'm hoping that joining this forum will help me to develop more discipline with respect to my diet. Any advice about how to avoid this night-time snacking plague would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I think that seeing other people reach their goals will motivate me to realize that weight loss isn't as hopeless as it seems right now.

Hi, DocSB! Welcome! Glad to have you with us! I get the late-night munchies too. Oh, who am I kidding? I get the munchies all day long! But at night I try to keep my hands busy with a hobby so that I don't use them to eat. It also seems to keep my mind off of food until I go to sleep. Good luck! I know you can do well and reach your goal!
