Hello! My husband had a coronary 1n 2009 and has had no further cardiac trouble. He is on a load of medicines, including statins. At his yearly check up at our doctor's surgery, they want him to try and get into the Mediterranean diet. Obviously keep on the medication, but in time and as he gets more and more into the diet, which after all will mean a lifestyle for both of us, the statins may be reduced and eventually discontinued for him.We have to wait and see.
I've sent off for a book for beginners and also a cook book, but any help or advice will be very welcome.

Of all the diets out there, it's on the list of ones I can get behind because it's not really a diet. It's not used in the typical fashion where "diet" means to lose weight, but in it's true sense of just daily healthy eating. It simply promotes a well balanced diet, focusing on vegetables and healthy oils. While I don't follow this diet, those 2 things are something that I focus on daily.

Yes indeed. It sounds really wonderful. So many recipes and tips how to adapt our normal lifestyle to a more healthy one.I can't wait to get started. From what I've read it will help my creaky knees no end!

It's a good idea to try a Mediterranean diet, but there are also couple of other options. I recently read about some paleo diet and metabolic cooking diet. I can provide you the link so you can see it. I personally used the paleo, and it's great. My sister was overweight so she had to do something with it because her lungs were getting in trouble. I don't know how, but the doctor said that she has to lose fat immediately. She decided to try something new so she started with the paleo diet.
