Sport Measure metabolism?

Sport Fitness
Is there a way to, at least roughly, measure your metabolism? I think mine is relatively high, but I'm not sure. Some sort of self-study or test you can do?

I don't know. To determine that, I'd need to own one, then compare the results to a laboratory finding.

At $399 for the thing, I'm not likely going to buy one anytime soon.

Yeah at $400.00 bucks I don't think that's what I'm looking for. Is there a general way? I hear people talking about "I have a high metabolism." and "I have a low metabolism", but I don't really know how they know or what to make of it.

generally though a lot of people talk out their arse though. If you want to measure your metabolism this way basically ask yourself do you find it easy or hard to put on weight, If you find it hard to put on weight you may classify your having a high metabolism and vice versa for slow metablosim.

Truthfully though the key is finding which foods and what amount works for you to help you reach your goals and you are the only person who can find that out by the ol experimenting with differnt foods and portions route

The best way really is to eat, workout and see what works for you. There is however testing that colleges and some private training do by testing rested oxygen output compared to body weight and stats. There are many things that can affect the tests so make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing. It usually runs about 50 bucks. So check into your nearby colleges to see if they offer it if really curious.

Thanks, those last 2 replies in particular were exactly the types of answers I was looking for. Appreciate the debunking.

If you call the nutrition support office @ your local hospital, they run BMRs on a lot of ICU pts using a piece of equipment I haven't seen, but I do know it is portable. They might have an in on where to get one done.
