Hi, I'm a 22 year old guy who is heavily overweight. I'm 6"2 and weigh 28 stone and am starting to feel the effects of being overweight. Believe it or not, I've been around 24-28 stone for around 5 years and have never had any health problems. Just recently I've started to feel a bit tired and achey and thought actually it's time to make a change. I've been a member of the gym for around 6 months but haven't regularly attended as I find I feel very tired and as though my blood sugar is low after it (I have been tested for Diabetes and I am not diabetic and regularly check my own BM). I go to the gym maybe once a week and do a 15-20 minute swim (after that I'm pretty tired). I've decided that with a holiday coming up in six weeks time that I'd like to loose around 2.5-3 stone to start off with and I'd like to do it within the six weeks. I've just bought two weeks worth of slim fast and am going to work really hard at their 3-2-1 plan.

My question is, how is this achievable? Does anyone have any form of diet plan or exercise regime that they recommend I follow? I work 9-5 Monday to Friday and as I work in the hospital I am on my feet for 75-80 % of the day (this is walking, not standing in one place).

I really feel I can do it but every time I try, I fail. Does anyone know of any support forums? - My girlfriend is very supportive but doesn't feel the same struggle that I do.

Thanks guys,

R

If you're just starting out, I recommend you focus on tracking and counting your calories. it's really the most important part and all 'diets' work by caloric restriction.

I really can't comment on slimfast since I'm not familiar with the stuff, but the total calories you consume are the most important thing at the moment, not so much what types of food you eat, etc. Of course you should always try to keep a balanced diet for health reasons.

While exercise can help, it's an extremely inefficient tool to aid in weight loss (It's much much much easier to not eat the calories in the first place, than to burn them via exercise), so take it easy and do what you can / enjoy doing.

We ARE a support forum! You can start yourself a journal if you'd like.

So I hope that helps and good luck.

You are so young and you start to feel achey and tired already :( I would think that would be motivation enough to start eating healthier.

Slim fast.. well, it's not real food, and there is even sugar in some of their products and hydrogenated oils.. how is that going to get people to lose weight.. but I guess if you do that first and then continue by eating very well - lots of salads, furits and vegetables.

Since there is not always healthy food options in hospitals, maybe you need to take your own food with you to work?

Literally limiting/counting calories is always a 100% sure fire way to lose weight (and anyone who says otherwise is a liar lmao) assuming you abide by it and stick to it. Just knowing that comforts me, I'm using it right now as a last resort. I don't enjoy counting calories but it gets the job done.

Hey, thanks for your post. I just joined this website to share my story. I started the Bod-e challenge. They give you a meal plan and protein shakes. If you follow their diet and continue exercising daily, you should be able to lose weight. If you're interested, I could help you get started

I am not familiar with slim fast. I found for me planning out my meals and brining food with me has really helped. I make bad choices when I am hungry, but if I have gone to the effort to prepare snacks and meals, I just have them. I normally plan suppers for a month and then do the other meals a week at a time (based on leftovers and sale items at the grocery store).
