Sport Max number of bars?

Sport Fitness
I've been speaking with a lot of people, read a lot of research and opinions, and need to know once and for all:

What's the maximum number of bars one should consume daily?

I'm a full-time college student, and sometimes, my space for meals is limited. I've been eating 2 bars per day, as I've read that should be the max---but is it?

Ideally, it would be zero.

Real food is the way to go, and processed bars are full of sugars and junk.

I understand busy schedules make it difficult to get full blown whole food meals 6 times a day. However, there are some good recipes for making your own bars in the recipe section. You could make them ahead of time and bring them with you.

It also depends on what is in the bars, what time of day they are consumed at, etc. But as deschain said, it would be best to have a full meal, however they can be very convenient.

I've tried those recipes deschain - didn't like them at all, very messy for a college guy. I bring my meals in a cooler for the day, and those bars get very messy.

The bars I eat are PureProtein, low-carb bars. I eat one at around 8:30 am for meal 2, then one around 1:15 p.m. for meal 4.

I'd drink a shake before a bar. some of the processing used to make bars not so messy also screws with the protein quality.

if you could knock back a whey+casein shake, an ounce of nuts or some fruit...it'd be better.

Otherwise, I'd stick to 1 bar a day max. And FYI I only suggest a max of two protein shakes a day for the same reason...whole foods are just better, and more filling, than any shake or bar.
