Marathon Advice

Hi,

I am partaking in a Summer Challenge that will require I run up to a half marathon altogether. My current fitness levels are good but only in certain things

ie. I can quite easily run for 30 minutes on a treadmill at 10km/h, I do intense spinning twice a week (45 mins and 60 mins) and I do a HIIT Cross Trainer session a couple of times a week for 30 minutes plus weight training

However, when it comes to road running I think I struggle. Like, I think I am not pacing myself as I become tired and lose the motivation to carry on by looking for a get out (like cars coming, crowds of people, texting etc)

Any advice out there for getting started and what seems to be controlling the pace as to not over exert myself?

Practice running for distance, not time. Start out at 30 minutes / session and gradually increase that to 2 hours. At 10km/h a half-marathon will be approximately 2 hours. Also, make sure you are not overdoing your pace. You should be able to hold a conversation, albeit a little jerky, while running.

I have started a blog to document my journey from couch potato to marathon runner.
I have posted a couple of training programs on my blog that I have used to train for full marathons.
take a look at them and let me know what you think.
