maintaining feminine form

hi everyone, I'm a little new here, but it seems like a fantastic forum with lots of well-informed people, so I thought I'd pose a question that has been troubling me for awhile.

Basically, I want to be able to tone my body without losing my breasts and butt. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I'm curious to know if there's a way to do this, for instance, by emphasizing muscle-gaining type training in those areas.

The thing is that my whole life I've been very thin. A few years ago, thanks to aging (I'm in my late 20s), a post-graduation office job, combined with poor eating habits and a more sedentary lifestyle, I finally started gaining weight (25lbs).

Great, right?

Well, great for my ass and breasts which are more full, and still pert, but not so good for my overall physical condition, nor my tummy or legs. My body has an untoned, sloppy look, particularly around the midsection, though I still look thin due to my height and my narrow bone structure.

So, I'm trying to get back into shape, but I've been avoiding cutting back on fatty foods because I'm afraid if I start losing weight I'll start looking pre-pubescent again. At the same time, I know I need to cut back, not only for my health, but so that the muscle definition shows.

Is there a solution to this, or will I just have to accept that to be healthy and look toned, I will have to sacrifice my newfound curves?

If this has already been dealt with elsewhere i apologize, but if someone could point me to the right thread I'd appreciate it.

Well, unfortunately there is no way of targeting specific areas of the body for fat loss (spot reduction).

Doing something to build some muscles in your glutes should help your butt if you don't want to lose it when you diet down. I've heard people say they think chest building exercises helps their breasts, but I've never seen this first hand, so I can't guarantee anything. Try squats, deadlifts and lunges for glutes (not necessarily all in one work out)

Some women are lucky and tend to gain fat in their breasts pretty quickly but lose it less quickly when they diet down. Maybe you won the genetic lottery? :p

You talk about reducing fat in your diet. Just keep in mind that it's the calories, not the fat, that counts when it comes to weight loss.

Basically, I agree with Karky. Only thing I'd change is probably do split squats instead of lunges, since I find lunges are very quad-dominant with minimal hip-work, while split squats tend to use a lot of gluts by comparison. Very similar exercise; main difference is that split squats place the weight over the front leg while lunges place the weight over the back leg.

Lunges don't place the weight over the back leg..
Doesn't really matter what she does, though, any lunge like movement is pretty good on the glutes.
