Maca Root?

I saw a thread on some forums I read about "female stuff" and how it helped some woman regulate their period, as many other benefits. I ordered a bag from amazon( it should arrive tomorrow) , I have a few medical conditions that mess with my menstrual cycle- and have for almost two years. I am desperate to get my hormones in check. I have taken so many medications , along with weight loss, and there is no change or improvement. Has anyone else had any experiences with Maca Root?

Articles / Information on Maca Root

Uses of Maca
Maca has been used as an aphrodisiac, fertility aid, and to relieve stress.

Toxicology
There is little information on maca's long-term effects. Its long-time use as a food product suggests low potential for toxicity.

Won't kill you - but doesn't sound like it's a cure for much of anything...

I was reading more about the Hormone regulating part- many people said it helped regulate their period and that kind of stuff, give them more energy etc.. I figured I would try it ^.^ nothing else has worked..

Maca has a profound effect on menstrual regulation, that is one of the reason people use it and also one of the side effects/ both positive and negative/ it depends on what you are using it for.

I am just so frustrated! I guess its worth a try ..

Edit: some more info! I like the last part! lol

It has been proven to increase fertility, its an aphrodisiac, it regulates the menstrual cycle, its nutritious, a physical and mental energizer, fights cholesterol, and it contains vitamins, calcium, and proteins. But most important of all: It does not cause weight gain!

what's your doctor said about it?

and if you're on any other medications, I can't stress the importance of checking with your doctor or pharmacist about any ill effects the root m ight have on existing prescriptions you might be taking... (all natural doesn't always mean it plays well with other drugs)

I haven't talked to her ( was planning on calling today.) From what I read from other woman it doesn't clash with the medicine I am taking at the moment.

maca root

hi this is my first time ever in my fourty two years i have felt the need to sign up to one off thease sites.
I came here one month ago reading about meca trying to find sanity.
I have had chronic fatigue and dreadfull hormone problems for five years and couldnt belive there was nothing to help me. I had gained two stone in two years was so tired so stressed and so hormonal. I was only getting one good day a month my concentration level was so bad some days i couldnt even hold a conversation and as for labido there was none.
I have been taking maca for about three weeks .I am not completly better but there is light at the end of the tunnel. My weight is starting to slowly come down ,i need two hours less sleep a night and i am sleeping through the night .iIread a book last week something i havnt been able to do because of the concentration issues.I have started to like myself again im not going around screaming at everyone then feeling guilty. I hope i havnt gone on to long but this stuff is a miricle all that i have read on this it doesnt seem to have any side affects or warnings anywhere but if unsure check with your doctor.:waving:

Maca

I'm a personal trainer, and I just started using maca. As a trainer, I have to work out and eat well (i'm sure no one would hire an out-of-shape trainer for weightloss/strength training advice). Even though I take care of myself, I found myself gaining weight uncontrollably (about 25 lbs. in one year). My strength had decreased dramatically, no libido, irregular periods with horrible PMS, and mood swings, among other symptoms. My doctor told me my cortisol levels were high; too much stress in my life. Currently I have had a close relative pass away within the last 3 years, bought a house, started my PT career, and am planning a wedding. Also going to school for Physical Therapy.

So, I did some research and decided to try maca root powder. I've only been taking it for a few days, but I am no longer retaining as much water, and my family has noticed I'm returning to my old self. I'm going to keep using it @ recommended dosage for a few months, and hopefully it will reset my hormone production for a while. I recommend trying it, as there are no known side effects if the dosage remains within 3000-5000 mg per day. I've also been taking and iodine supplement.

I haven't had my daily sweets craving, followed by my daily salty cravings. I have more energy, my thinking is clearer. It's great.
