Sport Lowering Carb Intake

Sport Fitness
So I've been reading up on higher protein, lower carb diets, and have gotten mixed reviews, from kidney stones to great fat loss. I put thought into it and asked myself, why not try it? So, here is a sample of what I was planning on doing, now of course my sample doesn't meet my needed calories. I was going to add chicken to it, but I will do that as I go along. What do you guys think of this? Too little carb/too much protein? Thanx

PS: Keep in mind, there are little food choices, but there are multiple serving of the stuff...

Low carb diets are very beneficial to losing fat. 70grams of carbs isn't too low, so your fine.

Whether you do low carb, low fat, or some other method of creating a calorie deficit for fat loss, you may want to add vegetables for fiber and micronutrients (most vegetables are low in both carbs and fat, so they can be eaten in large amounts without much affecting your carb and fat (and calorie) intake).

Vegetables can also make your meal more interesting. What would you rather make a meal out of, a can of tuna and a few almonds and walnuts, or the same tuna, almonds, and walnuts in a salad with several different kinds of vegetables?

Yea, Low carb ain't for me...I'm home from school about 3 hours ago, and my head was pounding. Here's what I planned:

Breakfast 6:30
½ cup Cottage Cheese
1 tbsp. Jelly

Snack 9:45
¼ cup Walnuts

Lunch 11:45
1 can Tuna
1 tbsp. Mayo

Snack 2:55
¼ cup Walnuts

Snack 3:40
½ cup Cottage Cheese
1 tbsp. Jelly
¼ cup Pecans

PostWO 6:30-7:00
Whey
1 cup Skim Milk
¼ cup Pecans

Dinner 8:00
Chicken
1 cup Carrots

After this, I was going to add stuff like more chicken for more protein/cals. I got until the 1/4 cup walnuts at 2:55, and at about 3:30, I felt like falling asleep because my head hurt so bad. I ate a bagel with some choco milk, and my head stopped hurting... Looks like breakfasts are back to oatmeal, and possibly add some carb at lunch rather than just tuna and mayo.

Don't give up on the first day, after several days your body will get used to the carb deprivation. What your experiencing is common for most people during the first week. Your head is hurting because your body is so addicted to junk food and sugar, thats why its going through withdrawal, if you stick through it will eventually go away.

Whats the point if you try something and give up so soon?

I just couldn't take the headache, the pain was, if you will, unbearable. But they will go away? I did not think of that, I thought I would have to bump up my carb intake or something. Hmm Phate, I'm reconsidering my plan...:)

Phate did you do the anabolic diet?

I stuck with it for a couple weeks, ran out of eggs and chicken and realized until i get my own place and buy my own groceries the diet wouldn't be practical. Couldn't convince the family to buy less bread and buy more meat/eggs.

Though I still follow a low carb intake. usually around 30-50g. Weekends a lil higher.

Bummer... how did it go for you while you had the necessary means to do it?

I actually really liked it. The first 2 days i felt like **** though, i felt dizzy and couldn't concentrate, but it passed once i got used to it. Which is why im telling aiming to try and stick with it for a lil bit and fight it through. It was hard though for me, i am addicted to peanut butter and cutting off my PB was very hard. 2 weeks wasn't long enough to get the major benefits, but one of the immediate benefits was no water weight. I felt flat and lean, which is one of the reasons i like to keep my carbs low, i love feeling lean and hate looking bloated.

But with the amount of chicken, beef, turkey, eggs, nuts i was eating it was not practical to buy that much meat while not forcing my family not to buy their carbs ( breads, ice cream, cereal, etc ), would have gotten too expensive. I was literally eating 7 or 8 boiled eggs a day LOL.

It is not so much that, it is that your brain runs on glucose. Lacking glucose for your brain (as it is depleted and not reloaded when eating a low carbohydrate diet), you feel really tired and otherwise unpleasant, until your body starts to synthesize ketones that your brain can use for energy (ketosis) and your brain switches over to using them.

Endurance athletes call this feeling the bonk. The reason sports drinks exist is to stave off the bonk during endurance events (or recover from a bonk if it occurs); drinking them at other times is not particularly desirable.

I know that feeling, I was doing a low carb diet for 3 days, and I just felt absolutely terrible, and even started to get a little sick. I realized it was foolish for me to do a low carb diet for the time being, but its good to know that it gets better.

Hes not going on keto, his carb intake is 70 grams which is way above what you need for the body to start using ketones. He just got a headache because his body has been used to being filled with carbs and sugar.
