I'm very self conscious about my tummy because the lower part of it really sticks out, my top half is quite skinny, I've never been one for exercise i usually stick to diets but nothing has helped.

I was wondering if any exercises might be able to help me get rid of this bulge?? also is it possible for me to get a flat stomach?

Hey Vampirebaby and welcome. We all have our hang-ups but for what it´s worth: I don´t think your lower belly is weird (looks like it´s mostly your pants pushing it up/out). Everyone has their own fat distribution and the lower belly is a little fluffy for most people. Victoria´s Secrets models are not typical for the human race! It´s a really tough place to actually lose fat from (spot reduction is just not a thing) but good posture usually helps a lot visually.

Hey VB, welcome!

I pretty much agree with everything LaMa has said. In different pants you would look better, and you do look good and healthy now.

I know from my own experience fat reduction from calorie deficit and exercise does not come from where you want it to. Got a mind of its own. Months of exercise including a lot of things for my abbs have not helped me get rid of the last bit of belly fat. My abbs are rock hard now, but covered with a layer of fat that just doesn't want to go (loose skin from weight loss as well). No six pack for me, not one you can see anyway. And I think it should be easier for a man to lose that belly fat than a woman, maybe anyway.

I think the trick is to get to a healthy weight and accept your body the way it turns out. And I think yours is probably just fine.

Best of luck to you!

Hello there,

Exercise would most certainly get you where you want to be. All it would take is maybe a 10-15 minute ab workout per day. Squats and other compound exercises would also help significantly, but you're probably better off starting easy and then working your way up. You seem perfectly healthy but if it's toning you're after, then you need to build muscle while maintaining a low body fat percentage.

All the best,
Seán

do you cycle? i believe cycling is underrated as an ab exercise. i'm pretty sure peddling flexes and relaxes your abs on every stroke. the last time i had a really flat stomach was when i was cycling like mad and i was actually 5-7 lbs heavier than i am today.

could you post your current ht/ wt?

The most exercise i do would be walking 10k steps a day and sometimes that isn't everyday, I'm 5'3 and 9st :)

The other thing is, can lower belly fat feel hard? as I'm sure it's fat, mine feels quite hard to touch almost as though it's constant bloat or muscle or maybe a medical issue? ahahh i'm really not sure, i've been on the keto diet for 2 months now and try to walk everyday but just seem to be losing weight everywhere else like you say

Even without any pants it seems to noticeably stick out, i'm always wearing highwaisted pants just to try and hide it, also can lower belly fat feel hard? as mine kinda does? was worried about that as i also could never find pictures of anyone with a bulging lower half like mine, though it could maybe be a medical issue, although i do think its fat?? really just want to lose it:(

It actually noticeably sticks out quite a bit without even wearing any pants also can lower belly fat feel hard to touch as mine kinda does? was worried it could be a medical issue but im sure it's just fat? It's like I got a (B) shaped stomach, my ribs stick out and then my mid goes in and the lower half really sticks out, if that makes sense, ive never seen pictures of someone with this issue:/

If you really think it might be a medical issue please ask a doctor. I am not sure what you are calling hard, I can tell you that now after my weight loss the fat I have left feels softer than it did. My belly is much smaller, but when it was big it felt harder. I am a lot older than you, I suspect your youth makes it a bit harder.

It would not hurt for you to try some exercises targeted at your belly, things for your abbs. LaMa is a lot more knowledgeable than I about this. However some sit ups or an abb wheel might be a good idea. Worth a try.

And I meant it when I said you really don't look bad, I am sure it looks worse to you than to others. If you are anything like me your eye goes immediately to your perceived faults. Others see you differently. Best of luck with it.

The muscle that holds everything in tight is the transverse abdominis trying to increase the rectus abdominis will not pull in the gut, and building muscle size for the rectus abdominis can give the appearance of a larger gut if you have not got the low bodyfay % to show it off.

you need to be spending time on developing a strong deep core, not doing endless sit-ups, roll-outs or a myriad of other exercises for developing the rectus abdominis.

None of this however will spot reduce to fat, at this stage you need to be including strength training to maintain and build muscle while diet reduces overall fat levels.

I see a lot of scantily clad people professionally and it´s extremely common. People just don´t usually take/post pictures of it because they don´t like it. Sometimes it´s purely stubborn fat, sometimes it´s caused by bad posture and gravity. If you´re not sure what it is please let your gp or gyno have a look at it, as it´s impossible to be 100% sure through a screen. Tru´s exercise recommendation is a good one, she knows her stuff.

Between Trusylver and LaMa you have gotten some good advice, they are the real experts here.

Let us know how it goes.

The most exercise i do would be walking 10k steps a day and sometimes that isn't everyday, I'm 5'3 and 9st :)

i've got some arthritis so i am pretty much limited to walking for exercise, too. and unfortunately i have the same lower gut problem, but mine only became pronounced after i lost ~50 lbs to get to this point. now it's the only really pronounced area of fat i have. one thing i'm considering... i have dumbbells and there are some core/ ab exercises i've picked up from a simple Google search. i've started a routine like this a few times, but i can't seem to stick with it for just about every excuse i can think of.

on the positive side... over the past year it has been improving. the most noticeable difference is witnessing a belt i use moving from the 2nd... now on the 3rd and pretty close to hitting the 4th hole. faster would be nice, but moving in the right direction is encouraging.

It looks fine and most probably there is nothing to worry about. I agree with other folk that it is always a good idea to run a hard lump by a doctor. In 2008 I lost quite a lot of weight and it revealed a bulge in my tummy. I went to my doctor and she sent me for a scan. A scan revealed that I had a hernia and it was a simple operation to sort it out. It was all very straightforward.
