Weight-Loss Low(er) calorie mixed drinks?

So, as a hobby I work as a nightclub promoter and I help run a club night every Sunday. We have a wonderful bartender who makes amazing drinks, which I get for free all night. I am not a heavy drinker - usually 1-2 mixed drinks a night - but I do like to have a drink to unwind. After looking up nutrition info on my two favorite drinks - long island iced tea, and pineapple and vodka - they are both between 150-225 calories. That adds up quickly!

So, can anyone recommend me some lower calorie mixed drinks (that are still tasty, preferably on the fruity side)? Obviously there's diet coke with rum, but I'm not a big rum person. I prefer vodka based drinks, with stuff like fruit juice or sour mix as mixers, if that gives you an idea of my preferences.

Also, does anyone else here go to clubs regularly? Besides my night, I also go out 1-3 x a month to other nights, parties, or live shows to promote. All of that club hopping means more opportunities to drink and add empty calories to my diet. Anyone have tips for moderation?

honestly -I'd stick with grown up drinks - forget the mixed drink stuff and drink a martini or a single malt scotch, neat... and alternate with club soda in between... you'll drink them slower and enjoy the booze more.. if you're drinking mixed drinks to disguise the booze taste -you're drinking for all the wrong reasons...

225 calories for a long island iced tea is lowballing it - i'd guarentee the number is higher in most places...

I'm not a drinker, but if goal A is to get some specific amount of alcohol to unwind, you're pretty much stuck with those alcohol calories. The only way to cut your calories is on the mixer, and what limits you there is what's stocked in the bar. So if they have light (artifically sweetened) cranberry juice, that would be an option, but if not, you're stuck. So for me, I'd work on setting a goal amount of alcohol, and not going over it. A Long Island Iced Tea could have anywhere from 2 to 5 shots of alcohol - since you have a relationship with the bartender, tell him how much alcohol you want in your drink, and then you know what you're getting.

If you want something to drink the rest of the night, so it looks like you're drinking something alcoholic, if you drink Diet Coke with lime, everyone will assume it's a rum & coke. When I go out (ha! when I went out as a younger person, more like it), that's what I'd drink when I wanted to look like I was drinking.

Here's my favorite.

Mix together Irish Whiskey and glass (preferably one that will hold 4 - 6 ounces).

Nothing else...for GODSAKE don't mix water in it (well maybe some spit immediately prior to swallowing).

Life is too short to drink cheap liquor. Good liquor should only be mixed with soul and dreams.

To be honest, I guess I've never considered developing my palate for liquor. I've focused more on wine and good beers. I do have some high end stuff in our apartment stash that was inherited from a former liquor collector who stopped drinking; maybe I'll do some taste testing and see what I like. I do know that I'm not a scotch person, and that I've tried a few high end vodkas that I liked.

The light cranberry juice suggestion is a good one. Maybe I'll have to do that and diet coke and rum after all, until I find liquor I enjoy drinking straight. Though it looks like a martini has about the same number of calories as a simple mixed drink. Or maybe I'll just have wine, if the bar offers it...though I know I need to watch out for the huge glasses wine is served in these days, and I can be picky about wines so I'm not sure what I'll find in nightclubs.

Either way, thanks for the info.

club soda and vodka. it lasts way longer than shots :p and club soda doesn't have any calories and you can still taste some of the vodka.

lime vodka, seltzer water, lemon juice (fresh is better but the squeeze bottles work too), and splenda.

A nice fizzy-lemonade tasting drink with very few calories besides the vodka.
