Weight-Loss Low carb diet............

Weight-Loss
why do you want to use this diet?

It works because it's low calorie.
can a person stay on it long term? no way could I - fruit, grains, bread are all good stuff...

Why not go with sensible eating and exercise -a plan you can s tick with for the rest of your life andnot ever worry about - oh my god can i eat that?

Low carb diets don't necessarily have to be low cal. I've been on a modified anabolic diet for about 7 years. I can easily consume 3500 calories a day on it.

You just have to make sure you're not in a caloric surplus, therefore, you have to work out like crazy. Anabolic and ketogenic diets are extremely beneficial for many athletes.

At the moment, I have stepped up my carb intake, and I've lost fat. Apparently, carb cycling works ;)

Low carb diets aren't magic. They just eliminate a food group to make it easier to not consume excess calories. It also, obviously, is proteinarific so you won't need to worry about losing much LBM.

If it works it works. I wouldn't do it for life, but it can be really beneficial since it eliminates alot of the more problematic foods.

It's a fad, just like the other exclusive diets in the past. In a few years, the popular diet will be completely different and have it's own army of "scientists" defending it, who are most likely just in it for the money. Eat a sensible (balanced) diet, and experiment around until you see which type is best for you and your body.

You think low carb diets (ala Tom Venuto and Lyle McDonald) are a fad? Anabolic diets have been around for a long time.

I don't agree with you. I'll stick to the Venuto/McDonald anabolic diets and do carb cycling. That's pretty effective at cutting the fat ;)

I'm not sure about those two people you mentioned, but I'm referring mainly to the Atkins craze, which started in the 90s. It might work fine for a lot of people, but to many others it isn't sustainable. I'd much rather eat a variety of healthy foods than just getting rid of a certain category of foods.

You might want to take a look at what Tom Venuto and Lyle McDonald have actually written about anabolic diets. Lyle McDonald doesn't sugar coat anything and he has a great writing style. His books are very, very good. Some are a little technical, but you will get the results you want.

It's pretty simple.

Low carbs are appropriate and, in fact, optimal for some people and some circumstances.

For others, they're the opposite.

No diet is right/wrong good/bad on it's own merit. It needs context.

If you've been unsuccessful with other diets, sure, you might want to try a low carb approach. Be proactive though. If you feel like hell on low carbs don't stick it out simply b/c it's 'supposed to be super duper awesome.'

It's all about experimentation.

what are your thoughts on it? does it work long term? any tips on the diet? and any snack ideas?

My thoughts are this:

IMO, you always take the easiest educated route to your goal: This begins with the basic and raw fundamentals of diet and fitness, and this is:

1. Learning the amount of calories you need (Base Line), and have some understanding of your macro nutrient (gram) targets.

2. Learning the amount of calories you need with activities considered (MT-Line).

3. Create a calorie Deficit

4. Construct a fitness program

See what happens.

The above is the RAW format. In this raw format, you can have things like Oatmeal, LGBR, Potatoes, and is less restrictive....in the sense of limiting Carbohydrate type of foods.

So, why go directly to the low-carb approach, when a simpler (and potentially) easier method "may" work for you?

Have you tried just calorie deficit--only approach?

Understand, I am NOT saying going low-carb is wrong, I am just saying in the most basic sense, there could be an easier method (and potentially less stress--dependent on your likes and dislikes in food).

Why so quickly to the low-carb method?

How much weight do you need to lose?

What do you have to train with?

Best wishes for your continued success,

Chillen
