I recently posted this at but wanted to share a short and sweet version with my fellow forum members :

We all want the best, don’t we ?

Best schools for our kids, best vacations, best flat screen TVs, so there must be a best diet RIGHT!

Well maybe not !

How about two best diets and they are both on the extreme hands of the dietary spectrum.

Plenty of studies and cultures around the world SHOW that a low-fat vegetarian diet as well as a low carb diet high in good fats, are not only heart healthy, but also a healthier way to eat , so be a vegetarian if you'd like to do that, as long as you don't gain weight or see your blood pressure or cholesterol rise. Those would be signs that the low-fat diet is NOT WORKING for you !

My favorite diet I have followed for 3 years, is a LOW CARB DIET.

WHAT ARE CARBS ?

Any food that is NOT an animal product, a fat, oil, nut or butter contains carbohydrates, which breaks down into sugar , That’s right SUGAR ! the same sugar in a Snickers bar.

Its called glucose

Whether it's bread potatoes, rice, fruit, broccoli or lettuce, there's fiber, vitamins and minerals in those foods, but they all still break down into glucose, so some foods contain MORE carbs and some LESS. That means, that some foods contain MORE sugar and some LESS.

OKAY , BUT What IS A LOW CARB DIET ?

A low carb diet is NOT about eliminating any food, it's about reducing the total amount of carbs in your daily diet.

I am talking about doctor Atkins diet, the Zone diet, South Beach diet, or the basic Mediterranean diet where the incidence of diabetes and heart disease is much lower than in the United States.

HOW DOES THE LOW CARB DIET WORK ?

The common thing is that : Following a low-in-carbohydrates diet causes a reduction in blood sugar levels, and insulin production and that enables the body to utilize stored fat for energy instead.

Other advantages widely not known about that are :

Replacing the carbs with more protein and fat, results in a diet that is more satisfying, as they stay longer to metabolize, that means that we DON'T feel hungry as quickly after eating, and also that we don't want or need to eat so much. that will help you lose more weigh (6).

Eliminating a lot of carbs also put more highly processed foods off limits, that in turn, means that a low carb diet, by default, will have to turn into eating better quality foods.

Certainly most of low carb recipes contain more basic ingredients, which means that they retain more the intrinsic nutritional value, and so would normally have high levels of things like vitamins and minerals. That all means that, unlike many other diets, controlled carb diets put you back in charge in your eating habits, and therefore your BODY.

The bottom line is this :

By following a low carb diet, we are naturally encouraged to give our bodies better-quality food, at the time that they were designed to have. It's no wonder then that ,though, low carb diet work so well, and the people who follow it properly not only lose fat but also become healthy in other ways too.

WHAT ABOUT LOW CARB FOODS ?

Some people STRUGGLE with low carb diet because they don't know which foods will work, and which foods will not !
let's look at a few key benefits of a low carbs diet foods :

The low carb diet foods will be excellent for controlling your hunger.

LOW CARB DIET = MORE FAT = HIGH CHOLESTEROL LEVEL, IS THAT TRUE ?

On a low-carbohydrate diet you're gonna have to eat a little bit more fat, isn't this extra fat going to make your cholesterol go way up ?

Well, actually NO

We get cholesterol from two different sources :

One : we eat it .

Two: we make it .

ONLY about 15 percent of cholesterol in our body comes from what we eat, the other eighty-five percent actually comes from what we make !

So, even if we eat a very low fat diet, we couldn’t change our cholesterol that much ! so why don't we actually try to change what we make ?

If we can influence what we make, we can actually influence our cholesterol level much better, So how do we do that?

low-carbohydrate diet decreases our insulin levels, and if we can decrease our insulin levels we will, certainly, turn off some of the mechanisms to make cholesterol.

We DON'T make cholesterol from FAT, we actually MAKE IT from CARBOHYDRATE !

So if you are on a low-carbohydrate diet, you actually have less fuel to make the cholesterol.

Second thing is that : when insulin levels goes down, we turn off the enzymes system that tells our body to make cholesterol !

So, we can actually influence cholesterol down in two separate ways :

Less materials to make the cholesterol from.

Less of the enzymes to make the cholesterol.

Therefore, our cholesterol levels actually will go down on a low low-carbohydrate diet, and the EXTRA fat will NOT be converted into cholesterol.

WHAT ABOUT HEART DISEASE ?

There's never been a study done, and has ever proven that a high fat, low carb diet cause heart disease, only a high fat, high carb diet causes heart disease.

All studies about fats that have been linked to heart disease in the past, did NOT take into account the amount of carbs eaten by the participants, because scientists have never been able to wrap their brain around the thinking that Apple's, whole wheat breads, potatoes or those cute little bugs bunny carrots, could anyway be linked to heart disease

high-carb diet contributes to heart disease , because the sugar in it creates an inflammatory response within the body in artery, leading to heart disease, possible diabetes, and other inflammatory health condition.

Hope this helps you guys!

This is such useful information, I felt like I learned so much about carbs in general. Thanks!

Very useful information. I would like to ask about some kind of food. Potato is a food with carbs? If we follow a low carb diet can we eat potatoes and how often during a week and in what amount?

Hi everyone! I want to know why I'm not losing weight**. I've just tried different kinds of diets but it doesn't work.
I'm 16 years old,
132 lbs ,
5'1*

Here ia my diet history(the one without advice of someone or simply I just do my own diet without reaearching and without knowing it would be dangerous)

When I'm Highschool i don't eat breakfast, I starve always and I do it for almost 2years . I didn't also
take my lunch. I just buy snackk in our canteen knowing it won't make me fat. And in dinner, i eat a lot. Sometimes small meals.*
In my almost 6months of doing this. My friends tell me that I'm getting thin, but then after 1 year and more months. They notice i'm not getting thin and tell me to avoid skipping meals. I'm not starving so I continued. And now I'm college student,i want to research about healthy diets that won't affect my health badly. But now i tried everything (calorie deficit - eating
less calorie more than my body burns) , while doing (low-carb diet,50kg of carbs only or low per day)
I never eat unhealthy foods/drinks(candies,energydrinks, junkfoods, verybsweet foods etc) and start eating fruits and vegetables.
i eat small meals every three or four hours to keep my metabolism going(limiting it to 1,000 cal per day or 1200 because my bbody burns 1,400 cal a day.

i don't know what to do. But my body don't change. And the number on scale*
