Hi there folks.

Let me start by saying i was 33 stone a year and a half ago.

now i am 17 St 12lbs - 18 St. hovering.

i have started a new diet that ties in with my gym and my instructor put me on it.

Its Low carb high protein diet.

i eat 6 times a day. (well i try to but never can usually )

Breakfast is porridge and a piece of fruit. ( currently banana )

3 hours later a protein shake. whey protein. fast to digest

3 hours later a tin of tuna and two eggs scrambled

3 hours later a yoghurt

3 hours later chicken and two eggs scrambled.

the weight comes off fast

my question is that apples are they better than bananas?
i kno they are lowed carbs and this is what i want due to carbs being stored as fat if not burned.

would you suggest any other things for breakfast lunch dinner as low carb?

i am sure i could swap the poridge with something but not sure what?

let me know your thoughts guys?

p.s was at the Dr the other day . i have to get to 90 Kg (14 St) before i can get the skin removed.

Apples are lower than banana's in calories, fat, sodium, carbs, and protein. Apples really just consist of water, carbs, and vitamins but they are great for you. That said unless you are looking to cut weight in any small way possible it may be better to stick with the banana because your body will get more out of it that can be used to fuel you during exercise than it will with the apple. Your body digests fruit VERY fast, and it wont get much out of the apple to help fuel it through the morning.

1 Cup of banana: 200 calories, 1g fat, 2mg sodium, 51g carbs, 2g protein
1 Cup of apple: 65 calories, 0g fat, 1mg sodium, 17g carbs, 0g protein

thanks for your reply

i am not looking for the food to aid the loss via exercise. i just am tring to get as low as i can carb count. i am doing well so far. i just wanted to lower it. i hear that an apple takes more cals than it gives you to digest .plus it keeps you regular.

my main goal just now is to get to 90kg (14St) so i can have the excess skin removed from me.

get down to my normal size and waist also so i can join the police

my bmi is 32 and need it to be at least 30

Does you eat something like bee hoon soup? It is a bowl of noodle with some vegetables. The noodles is made of rice flour and the soup base is clear soup. Just add your vegetables into the soup.

I think it can replace your porridge.

Why is it people keep thinking that carbs are a bad thing? Of course the weight is coming off fast because based on what you put down, you are on a pretty low calorie diet right now. Do you think that all carbs you eat instantly becomes fat and are not used? It is really all about calories in vs calories out.

I congradulate you on your weight loss but remember whatever you are eating is a lifestyle change. It should be something you can maintain for the rest of your life.

Yeah, that much protein is going to cause a lot of appetite blunting.

Vegetables. Sprouts, greens, herbs, cabbages, radishes, mushrooms, jicama, cucumber, asparagus, fresh beans (green, long, wax, peas in edible pods, etc), broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, peppers, summer squash, scallions, fennel, artichoke, tomatillo, eggplant...

Berries - Raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries, loganberries, lingenberries.

Other fruits - melon, papaya, guava, mango, peach, nectarine, etc.

Combination foods like soups, stews, compotes, etc.

i am sure i could swap the poridge with something but not sure what?
You could swap it for lots of things. What kinds of things did you eat before this diet?

I'll note that if that's -really- the diet your trainer put you on, I'd be looking for a new trainer. It's seriously lacking in micronutrients and may have insufficient sources of healthy dietary fat (depending on what you're using to cook your proteins). It's also pretty limited in the variety of proteins you're consuming, which makes the other problems worse.

I'm not going to say that all low-carb diets are unhealthy, because I believe it's possible to have a healthy low-carb diet. Restricted diets are inherently more difficult to make healthy however, and your particular low-carb diet doesn't appear sustainable without vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

Fruits are a healthy source of fiber and phytonutrients, but some are rather high in carbohydrates and sugar. Dried fruits may sound like a healthy snack option, but the drying process turns them into a very concentrated source of sugar. Blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and cranberries are all low in carbs.

what to eat

I have been dieting for about 1 month. Mostly by reducing what I eat and exercising daily(intensely). For breakfast recently I was choosing between two bagels a Multi-grain bagel or a white bagel. I chose the white bagel because it had a lot less calories.

white 150
Multigrain was 300 but had 5-7 grams of fiber.

Looking back I should of chosen the Multigrain.

The more I read the more I am not sure what is best for me.

Low Carbs ie atkins or Low Glycemic ie sugar solution

I think Atkins may of had a good plan but it has evolved over the years. I am not sure what people say about Low Glycemic

Or am I completely on the wrong path?

You do know you can eat anything out there as long as it is in moderation.

Jericho, good luck on the Christmas dash, I hope it works out! :biggrinjester:

Now, regarding your above comment, I must respectfully disagree with it as a blanket statement. For me, eating anything I want is very hard, because I lack the main component of your statement, moderation. I try, but some of the stuff is so good, that I just am not great at stopping.

I have also found more success in my diet by working with objective statements. "moderation" is a subjective measurement, where I can convince myself that I am eating a moderate amount of something through rationalizing it. I believe this is hard for many of us.

With low-carb, it's objective. don't eat a lot of carbs. It's not for everyone, but for people that don't have a lot of self-control (me), it's more successful than just trying to eat moderately...:biggrinjester:... That's my 2 cents!

I always heard an apple a day would keep the doctor away.
I love both apples and bananas, right now I am eating a lot of bananas. I know on WW's point system I can have a lg apple or a banana and both cost me two points each. I heard that WW's don't even count fruit any more, but I don't know for sure.

If there is fat in a banana it is a good fat. Its a wonder if I don't turn into a monkey, lol. I don't think I could eat chicken at 6:00 am, but sounds like you have a good plan going for you.

I say the loose skin weighs quite a bit. You will fill much lighter after they remove it.
Good luck on getting the skin removed!
