Wasn't sure where o post this but I made an exciting discovery on the weekend. I promise I'm not affiliated with this brand but i just love it when a new low cal product comes out that is nice! Yellow glen are now making a champagne that is low alcohol and low calorie, and it's really yum. The pink one. I drank it at a dinner on the weekend and loved it.
Does anyone know...is it the alcohol it'self that has the calories?

alcohol does have calories, yes.

Not necessarily. Carbs, protein and fats have calories too. All depends on what you mix with it.

Alcohol has 7 calories per gram.

Light beer either has less alcohol, or less carbohydrates (from the hops used in the brewing process).

:rotflmao:  :smilielol5:

Hops have almost no calories. It isn't even the hops that are used, it's the pollen from the hops.

Beer is made from grains, usually malted barley, but there are often other adjunct grains used. The yeast eats the sugar of the grain and converts it to Alcohol. Not all the sugar is converted, so what is left is the carbohydrate content. Hops is the bittering herb for taste and aroma.

Light beer is made to have less residual sugars after the fermenting process. There is usually the same amount of beer, but less carbs.

As far as light champagne, well, I'm a bit skeptical of that one, but I can be a wine snob at times. :D I imagine that they use a watered down juice for fermenting. You'd probably get the same effect if you did club soda and champagne.

Are you a fellow homebrewer or just a beer nerd?

Well, it has a nice flavour. I wouldn't buy it for a special occasion but for a bit of sparkle on a sunny afternoon, it will suffice.
