Help!

I've been trying to lose weight for 2 weeks.

I am a 5'5 21 year-old female that normally weighs 116-118 lbs. However, a few months ago, I started getting lazy with my food intake/ stopping exercising all together and went up to 123 lbs. So I decided to do something about it..

I began to work out everyday doing 30min to 1.5 hrs of cardio (treadmill, sometimes elliptical) depending on the day. I started interval training and went from being able to run 3 miles in 28 minutes to running 3 miles in 24 minutes. After some workouts, I was kind of sore, an indicator that I'm gaining muscle. However, given that I had already gained weight, I was expecting to lose some weight (even when I don't work out, if I'm eating moderately, I should be about 118 lbs) considering my intense relationship with the treadmill. I will admit that I haven't been the best about food...yes, I'm eating healthy (lots of fiber) but also a lot. About 2,500 calories a day on average. This is not necessarily more than I was eating before though, and I guess I made the excuse "Well I'm burning on average 400-1000 calories a day, so this is making up for it.".....not to mention my CONSTANT hunger, I'm sure anyone who has done cardio everyday can relate to this.

Okay, so today, 2 weeks later, I weigh myself....126!!! Yeah some of it is muscle (I barely do muscle training and when I do its very minimum), but this is almost 10 lbs+ than my usual weight. Pourquoi :(? and help?

Unfortunately it sounds like in addition to doing cardio, you're also doing the carBio... to much fiber in the form of carbs will pack weight on quick. If it's fiber you want, try this - cut up a bunch of fresh veggies and snack on them with lean protein meals, and in between meals. They fill you up, while giving you a vitamin/mineral boost - and you'll get lean quick.

Hope this helps!

Interesting, thanks. I'll give that a try. I've been eating a lot of pasta/bread/(whole wheat)/ fruit lately so maybe this is part of the culprit. I've been cutting cheese out of my diet because of its high calorie content, but hey maybe introducing back in won't be so bad :)

Don't be so concerned about the scale!! Are you getting more toned? THAT is what you should be looking at, especially since your original weight gain was less than 10lbs. You probably do not need as many carbs as you are eating, but please remember that your body DOES need whole wheat carbs. They are our primary source of energy when we exercise. Eat them as a pre-workout snack to give yourself energy reserves (but nothing big...I'm talking a granola bar), and after your workout to replenish (but again, not a lot. Maybe 2-3 oz of whole wheat pasta), plus protein to help heal your muscles after your workout. Carbs are great in moderation, but we don't need them as much as we want them!

IMO, cheese isn't doing anything for you. You can get calcium from SO many other places, without the high calories. Are you balancing all the fiber with protein? Don;t forget your protein!
