Hello all

I live with my mom, we're latino(dominican), and my mom doesn't really know any 'diet" foods.I'm just looking for some tips on what to and what not to eat..is long white rice ok to eat? how about grilled chicken? turkey? how about all these "low fat/fat free" foods on the market? low fat cheese, mayo etc, should I trust them? I really have no idea what to eat..everywhere I look theres fat junk food..and I'm not really fond of vegetables :(

Thanks in advance

fat isn't your enemy...

in order to lose weight you want to use more calories than you take in..

Use a site like to record your daily calories and weigh and measure your portions to make sure you've got an accurate accounting,

White rice isn't bad, brown rice is probably better.

Grilled chicken is good, just watch the amount of oil that is used in the grilling - the oil isn't bad but it does add in calories.

What is your current age/weight/height and what does your current diet and exercise program look like?

I'm not really fond of vegetables
Why don't you like them? The way they've been prepared? try a different preparation method - texture? try a different preparation method? Basically try vegetables til you find some you do like.

I am 16yo/314 something lbs/5"10ish

I was 337 before(around 330 without clothes I'd guess) I lost around 10 pounds in 2-3 weeks of starving myself..and needless to say it was horrible..I was always hungry.I was also in a gym with my big brother, he was my motivation back then in February but then he had his kid, got a promotion in his job and he could no longer go with me to the gym, I lost interest and stopped going to the gym and went back to my old ways.I realized I didn't need anybody to stuff food in my mouth so I certainly didn't need anybody to help me get food out of it. I started eating more(6 times a day) but smaller proportions, and healthier food. For example today so far, I had an orange for breakfast, whole wheat tuna sandwich with mixed fruits for lunch.

And vegetables..I just never got used to eating them.I like tomatoes, aguacates, corn(don't know If I should eat that), and some other I can count with my fingers.I kinda like carrots but just uncooked.I guess I'll do what you said, try it all and see what I like, and don't like.Keeping count of calories and whatnot is going to be a pain though..heh I guess I'll try to educate my mom about all this next time we go to the super market.I really am going to do this no matter what.Tired of being the fat kid.

An orange for breakfast is not enough for a growing boy... you don't want to cut your calories too low -- you will loose weight with a reasonable number of calories per day...

Hmmh..damn..how about oatmeal and a slice of whole wheat bread? Would that be good enough?

also wow you lost all that weight! ! I am impressed! this forum just keeps on giving me motivation!

oh oh an thanks for that link!

oatmeal is good - because it's filling, you could also add in the orange and probably an egg or two - if you're pressed for time (what I do anyhow) is hard boil a bunch of eggs one day a week and leave them in the fridge, then grab one or two as I'm headed out the door for breakfast with my oatmeal - which I have at my desk at work

Ah yes I'm always short on time..got the earliest bus in the school...and great idea, i love boiled eggs, I'll def start doing that from now on.

Ahh man I'm confused about loose skin..hmmh...some say I should lose 2/3lbs per week? take it slowly etc..is this true? I don't have that big of a belly, I've got pretty big thighs also worried about my chest, will it go down as I lose weight or go back to the way it was when I was 11-12..
