A valve is a system that enables a fluid to flow in just one way in a defined path, therefore preventing backflow of the fluid. The aorta, consequently, branches into other blood vessels in the limbs, neck, and organs of your body to furnish it with oxygenated blood.
The aortic valve splits the left ventricle of the heart and the aorta. It's the last valve before blood leaves the heart and passes into the aorta. The valve is formed during pregnancy and is generally composed of three different cusps or leaflets, which, when closed, form a tightly sealed barrier that prevents backflow of blood from the aorta to the heart.
