Losing weight with a bad addiction to food

Hey everyone,
I'm sure all of us here have had a problem with food. It's so tempting, because it's so good. Best part of it all, is that you can just drive 5 mins away or less to get it. We all have money, so its ours, when we want it.

Some people though, actually have this awesome resistance to the food. They just hate eating too much. And on my Dad's side, that's how it is. How ever, on my mothers side, food is the best thing ever, since sliced bread.

And so, I am left with the addiction to food. Just the taste, but it's so good. How do I control my cravings?. How do you guys do it here?. Is it primarily motivation?, or can you give yourself self-CBT to control it?. I tried the "Beck Diet Solution", but it's hard to follow. Other than that, I remain at 220 lbs, and it's just getting up there every day. I used to be 170 lbs for awhile, and now my job requires me to work with food. I guess that's just the way it is though. Life was so hard at a time where we had to hunt for food. Now, it's just a walk down the street. Like I said. I just need a plan now. And I really suck at motivating myself, I just wish it just came naturally that I didn't eat alot of food.

If I was to lose weight now according to my own plan that would "keep the weight off", would be to excessively work out for 1 1/2 each day, and run for 45 mins, and only drink water. Afterwards, I'd just work out for 45 mins per day, and be extremely careful of what I eat, to help keep the weight off. I hope I can find an easier plan down the road.

I can understand how you feel.

That was my biggest challenge too when I first wanted to lose weight.

But in the end, it boils down to 2 questions:

1. Do you REALLY want to lose weight or not?

2. Are you prepared to do what it takes to lose weight?

Even it means regular exercise and a well-balanced diet. By well-balanced, I mean food that is meant to help you lose weight and be healthy.

Let me give you a few examples.

Example A: Sandwich For Burgers

Instead of going to McDonalds or Burger Kings which majority of people picked as their favourite fast food outlets, I prefer to go to Subways or just nearest 7-11 outlet to grab a sandwich, bake and go.

Burgers tend to contain high carbo and saturated fats especially grilled beef and fried chicken. So instead I go for fish burgers or tuna sandwiches at the very limit.

Example B: Steamed Corn, Mashed Potato, Raw Carrots Or Fruits For French Fries

Instead of fries, I prefer to eat steamed corn or mashed potatoes.

Sometimes just raw carrots and fruits.

Example C: Bee Hoon And Brown Rice Porridge For Noodles, Pasta And Rice

Noodles, pasta and rice tend to contain high carbo and make adults - especially those in their late 20s and beyond - sleepy after meals.

For that, I prefer Bee Hoon or very thin and fine white strands that you can do Google research for more info and steamed brown rice porridge as substitute.

Example D: Natural Fruit Juices And Fresh Milk Instead Of Soft Drinks

Instead of the usual Coke, Pepsi or Spirite, I now drink natural fruit juices.

Sometimes just plain good old pure mineral water.

Since you can find in supermarkets or outlets like 7-11, there is no excuse not to drink even if you don't have water bottles or forget to bring one from home.

I also liked fresh milk be it Chocolate, Strawberry or just Vanilla.

Example E: Plenty Of Fruits And Vegetables Instead Of Just Meat

Another important critical factor you have to take into consideration.

I am not saying you cannot take meat. I love meat too. But having plenty of fruits and vegetables as well is what makes a well-balanced diet.

Finally if you like snacks, why not have cereals or dried packed raisins - which you can find in 7-11 also instead of potato chips and chocolate bars?

This is my honest advice.

Old school yes but also very effective.

Losing weight IS possible.

If you want to.

Even it means giving up your addiction on foods that stop you from losing weight.

Hi FBB,
I am just like you. I like to eat. I know all the rules, all about nutrition, calories, exercise etc. I know it all but I am just compelled to eat, and just keep going. It is the hardest addiction for me to overcome, and I have been trying for 15 years. I don't like feeling full but I love eating. It's all in my head and drives me insane. How are things going for you?
