Losing that extra softness around the edges

Hello everyone, i'm new here. I'm a college student that is by no means fat. But, i am not feeling that impressed with my body right now. I feel i've gotten some soft edges over this winter, and i was wondering what the best way would be to slim down and get rid of the lumps and bumps.

I always get some sort of physical work out every day. I own and ride horses, and if i'm not riding, i'm scooping poop and doing manual labor. I'm also part of a gym, and go running. I'm not that motivated to go running though, because i'm not entirly sure it will give me what i want. I just want to slim down, get leaner longer muscles, and a more toned appearance, instead of soft and squishy. I had that last summer, and just want to get it this summer again. If i can get this from running, how hard, often, and long would i have to run to get results?

Will running help me? Should i go for speed? Or distance? Or intervals, where i run at a medium pace, then sprint for a little while, and do that on and of througout the run? I do weight training also, what would help the obliques and my sides the most? How bout the hips? Thanks!

Cut out about 200kcal from your diet for a while, do interval running (Take a look at HIIT) and that shouldn't take long :)

- how much do you weigh ?

- how tall are you ?

- how active are you now or have you been in the past - i.e do you participate in sports?......when is that last time you did any sustained cardio ( and how long was it for when you did it ) ?

I'm about 115 (that's probably being nice right now), i went running a few days ago, went maybe a mile and a half, could have gone longer. I'm 5'3. I don't really want to lose weight, just gain more muscle, and get rid of the "jiggles" that i never seemed to have before this winter. If running will help me, i'll be more motivated to do it, but i'm just not sure if it will or not, and if it doesn't there's really no point in me doing it. I could find something else. Thanks!
