loosing weight

I am 27 years old, tall roughly 5"11 and weighing 200lbs, sounds horrible i know, but i am actually not terribly "fat" looking. i just t twish to loose 20 or so pounds, and aside from the obvious exercising i would like some good tips to help get rid of these extra pounds i am carrying. I have been eating 1200-1500 calories a day, lots of fish and poultry, eggs, veggies, fruit, whole grains etc.. and have been drinking only water all day long, a minimum of 12 glasses a day. i have been doing this for 3 weeks now, and lost about 5lbs, but for the past week the scale has stayed the same fluctuating between a pound or two. i guess im feeling discouraged, but i know the weight gain didnt just happen over night, so i dont expect to just loose it over night either, but just want to ensure that i am on the right track. this is something i really want for myself so i am going to stay true to my diet and open to everyones helpful positive feed back. also i used to be horrible for late night snacking and not eating or drinking much durring the day and engorging myself with food at dinner and then snacking unhealthy cravings like chocolate, chips etc... i have cut that all out, and eating breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. with pleanty of water. i do however sometimes crave a snack at night, i have reached for some fruit, or melba toast. please help!

a typical day for me

breakfast:

1 egg scrambled

piece of whole grain toast

orange

2 glasses of water

tea (no sugar or milk)

lunch

tuna sandwich (1 tablespoon of mayo)

whole wheat wrap

small spinach salad dressed with balsamic

2 glasses of water

snack

table spoon of peanut butter

half a banana

2 glasses of water

dinner

piece of grilled skinless chicken breast

steamed veggies

2 glasses of water

snack

yogurt cup

2 glasses of water

night time snack (sometimes)

fresh fruit melba toast

tea

am i doing this right?

thanks :)

Heather

Avoid drinking cold water. Instead always drink lukewarm water as cold water hinders the stomach's digestion process. It definitely works for me!

That is just my personal experience. Aside from getting into raw food diet, drinking warm or lukewarm water before eating a full meal seems to help in keeping me fit. Drinking water first thing in the morning can also help boost metabolism. If you drink a good dose of water, some say that 8 glasses is good, throughout the day can help keep your metabolic rate well balanced.

It is okay. As long you have consistency or you must do much better than this? Just search everything in google or here in this forum.

I agree. There are a lot of helpful tips that you can do here.

When it doubt about progress, track calories and weight yourself under the same conditions. Morning, before you eat or drink, go to the bathroom, then weigh yourself.

Measure your body fat %. Then you can find out your max fat metabolism using an intelligent calculator :)

Actually, drinking cold water burns more calories as your body has to warm up the water before it is emptied from the stomache.

Im tempted to say you are eating too little Heather, and putting your body into starvation mode. This slows your metabolism and stores energy as fat.

My suggestion would be to increase consumption by about 20% and do some decent resistance training.

Give that a go for 8 weeks and I bet you will have lost body fat (not scale weight).

Stop posting things about water boosting metabolism etc. If it were true, all overweight people would be losing weight at a damn fast pace and easily.

And don't get me started on the whole starvation mode thing....
